ok comparing a softail to a dyna is like comparing an apple from tree to an apple of another. if your going to compare a harley to somthing do to another bike company all harleys kick *** in my book.. just choose the one you like the most. i like perf and handling with the looks of a harley thats why i got my fxdf to me it fits all my needs better than any other harley... i think my next bike is going to be a rocker then ill have two and i cant wait.... im going to butcher the rocker ive got so many great ideas for that chassis....
They are both good bikes, and all the trash talking is for the birds. Rent both and make up your mind its tough but asking on a forum like this only gets biased opinions. There have been a few mature though out comments I must admit, and they had nothing to do with same sex affiliation or putting down other HD models.
The swingarm on the Dyna and Tour bikes are bolted to the trans. The Softail is bolted to the frame. I like with the dyna you can make a U-turn anywhere and the softails have to do a threepoint turn.
Ummm, Softails can't do U-Turns?
I believe that has more to do with your rake, than frame type.
Never rode a softail so i cannot comment on its handling qualities,But i can comment on my 2008 superglide. I bought it because i have always liked the looks and handling qualities of my sportsters, so i decided to get a superglide because it handles very close to how a sporty handles, but handles 2 up riding a lot better.I rode it from Fla to New jersey and back this past summer and it rode and handled excellent, i have zero complaints. The only mod is i put a vintage mustang seat with a back rest on it...Always have liked the simple uncluttered looks of Sportys and Dynas as well.Having said that, i am sure softails are fine bikes too.
It was between a Night Train and the Fatbob for me. I bought the bob because I liked the dual front discs and the fat tire...not because it handled 1% better than the train...
C'mon guys, they're 700lb bikes with 70hp from the factory. I'm pretty sure given equally skilled riders, the softtail/dyna guys would be within a second or two of each other around a track....while the guy on the Duc 1098-S laps them for the 5th time...in second gear...while sipping his morning coffee...

Really........ This Question Again????? It depends on the model. My Fatboy would out corner my buddies Wide Glide any day of the week. So that makes the Softtail better right????....... Wrong. The Fatboy will out handle the Wide Glide due to its tire size, and the narrow front tire on the WG along with the rake of the WG.
That being said, put a Super Glide or a Street Bob up against the FB, and the disadvantages of the Softtail will begin to show.
Softtail vs. Dyna is not an intelligent question. You have to compare the bikes model to model to get an accurate comparison.
