One would think Harley haters would find another forum to hang out in besides a Harley forum, maybe one of a brand they don't hate. I don't hate Honda or any other brand, they are just not my cup of tea, on the other hand I never do and have no reason go to their forums either to tell them brand x is not my cup of tea, I do agree that some need to check their attitude at the door.
Sportbikers, especially (since metric cruiser riders WANT a harley, no matter what they say). But I think of it like a guy in a dress making fun of me for wearing pants - I'm not real sensitive to the insult.
To be fair, I dislike sportbikers even more - I just think of them (usually correctly) as the motocycle version of the little white kids at the mall with sideways caps and sagging pants. Some are OK, I know, but it's handier to make broad generalizations, so I don't waste my time figuring out who to dislike.
That's how I feel about it, I don't care if anybody thinks my bikes the greatest in the world but give me crap about it and I'll get shitty. And Schumacher, I like your new bike, but to leave Harley "because of Harley arrogance" sounds weak.
not true, and hence this problem we are discussing. A lot of people hate the fact that all Harley riders believe all other make riders want a Harley. A lot could care less about Moco. This Harley arrogance is one of the reasons I'm going Victory.
Tell you what, if I ever meet a metric cruiser rider in real life and he doesn't explain to me his justification for NOT riding a Harley (kind of like you keep doing with the Victory) I'll come back here and post a thread apologizing to all the metric cruiser guys....don't hold your breath for that.
I have been riding since I was 16 and I am now 70. I have owned many different brands of cycles over the years.
I would suggest the the OP's statement is dramatically overstated. Just like there are Chevy/Ford debates, the same is natural with all other brands.
The statement that there is hatred and loathing is grossly exaggerated.
Of the comments that I have heard over the years, most is the good natured ribbing between guys.
The comment that it is the loud pipes that causes the problem with HD's. That person must not have heard the Honda VTX1800's, Yamaha's, Kawasaki's and Suzuki's that I have.
Name one brand of Cruiser that does not get aftermarket pipes.
My VTX1800 with Cobra drag pipes was by far louder than any HD that I have ever heard.
I call that the the theme of hatred for HD's is mostly BS by some troll or inbred mutated
moron.
I'm not here to talk down about HDs, I will refrain from any such talk going forward. My comments in the last post were to establish what my personal position is, I had hoped it would come across more along the lines of "it doesn't matter what you ride, it's just a personal choice" than "HD sucks". After a re-read it does sound a bit harsh, that was not my intention but notice the sentiment coming out when faced with the previous posters "you are just jealous" comment, brings up bad memories of getting hassled by HD RUBs.
To answer your question of "why are you here", I was reading various HD forums in an attempt to get my head around the whole HD mentality and why so many HD riders have become such a-holes to other bikers lately. Reading around on these forums has re-affirmed my suspicion that it is a vocal minority of HD riders, but as was pointed out by someone else in this thread there is a general undercurrent of this feeling of superiority and that other bikes are just not "real" bikes. There are at least three "bashers" that have come out in this thread alone (again, 24 pages of conversation and only 3, a minority but a very vocal and moronic minority). Overall though everything seems pretty kosher, maybe it's just regionally contained, perhaps I should do a charity run in another city and see if I get different results.
Door, man you need a hobby, your posts are loooong! Without trying to provoke you ,do you think the big jap 4 want the brotherhood HD offers? lets face it name a popular jab clone that doesn't look close to a hd model. Yamaha raider -looks like a soft tail, so does the Vulcan. Star liner-looks like a street glide. M109 looks and tries to 1-up the V Rod. Kawasaki even copied the triumph Bonneville better then triumph did when they re-released it.Don't tell me you never seen a clone stripped of all its badges so the untrained eye can't tell what it really is.I give props to Polaris for looking outside the box with the vision, some feel its ugly, but it is different. Maybe the big 4 should try that. Not a Jap hater, Ive owned 20 of them, but to blame it all on HD riders and there hate is a farce.

I"m a Zuki rider, and have been a member of this forum for years. I'm also a member of forums for Hondas, Yamahas, BMW's, Kawasakis, and Zukis. I'm not on here much, but I have to say this.
I don't dislike any brand as a whole. My bike buying priorities are by a combination of comfort, features, and appearance. Not the name on the tank. I can afford an HD. I didn't remove the badges on my tank because I want someone to think it's an HD. The real reason is because when I waxed the tank, they would snag the buffer and cheese cloth. None of us have to explain our justification for the bikes we ride to anyone. Douchebags ride all makes and models.
I was at a local festival, and bikes always park in this one field. People always walk around and look at other bikes and chat. I was the only metric rider in my group that day. We were all talking and I had my back turned to my bike, but saw two guys out of the corner of my eye looking at my bike. I heard the "piece of $h1t rice" comment. Then one said "I should knock it over". At that point, I turned around and said "That's my bike and if you can knock me over, then you can knock my bike over". At that point, they walked away. Now what kind of person would damage property simply because of the brand.
