Tell you what, if I ever meet a metric cruiser rider in real life and he doesn't explain to me his justification for NOT riding a Harley (kind of like you keep doing with the Victory) I'll come back here and post a thread apologizing to all the metric cruiser guys....don't hold your breath for that.
i could give two ***** what you ride, really i could.
it's just funny that any time someone is on a metric cruiser the first thing they tell you is why they didn't buy a harley.
only thing i ever realy say is nice bike. then i get a story about why they got this vs. that.
i don't care why. i spend enough time running my own life.
don't really need to know why you choose boxers over briefs.
This thread is pretty funny. I havent read the whole thing but as a current Harley rider, former Harley Rider, Former Metric rider, Former Italian rider, former German rider, (About 30 bikes in total) I get a kick out of both sides of the arguments.
I'm a Harley hater at times. Ever since a bunch of pirates gave myself and my fiance a hard time for her wearing a north face white fleece while riding, as they had the full head to toe get up on. Then asked if my RK was a 2007....Um no. It's a '95 evo. But I guess I'm just a RUB, or Squid, or wannabee even though Ive been to every state in the continental U.S. via motorcycle.
I'm a honda hater everytime my Dad who's been riding for 50yrs blows past me on his goldwing. Of which he is a severe Harley hater, and I hear about it all the time.
I'm a pirate hater, 2 loud harley pipe hater, harley snob hater, who makes fun of full leather crotch rocket suits and hates the whine of loud crotch rockets screaming by who loves Harleys, loves blasting twisites on my crotch rocket and loves to ride and will spend hours talking to anyone who will listen to me...... about any type of bike under the sun.
We're all haters at heart, we just dont always realize it. And my 1997 Honda Valkyrie Tourer got more attention than any bike, of ANY brand; Ive ever owned.
Do they hate the bike or the people who ride them? Having ridden for about 30 years, 24 of those years on the streets I've owned and ridden all types/brands of motorcycles. At my age and having ridden so many years, I now prefer a Harley. That was not always the case however. I rode metrics previously...Yamaha's, Hondas, BMW, etc. I always admired Harley's from a distance...the styling and the company history.
As a young man about 18 years of age, I recall riding my Yamaha Seca 650 through town when a guy on a Harley pulls up next to me at a light. He ignores me as I take a few admiring glances at his bike. As we are both waiting for the light, he looked my way and I acknowledged him and said "nice bike". He gave me a disgusting look and hurled a loogie my way. That's all it took. I became a Harley hater! I rode for years with all kinds of groups and avoided the M.I.B. (men in black) and it wasn't until 2004 that I changed my view and bought an Ultra Classic...my first Harley. I think sometimes Harley's become the focus of what people hate, when in reality what some find to be so objectionable are really the people who ride them.
I dunno about people hating Harleys... I do know I hate guys that own Harleys and run them without baffles in their pipes! Can't stand to hear someone with no baffles pull off from a light while I'm in the car. That blast of over loud excrement is an easy reason to hate those guys...

Yup. Guy I went to school with cut the pipes off after about 2 ft of header. Would roar through downtown and it'd echo off the buildings. you can guess how many ppl he endeared Harley to.
I guess I'm guilty of secretly laughing at the occasional cruiser (not just Harley) rider who tells me with conviction that loud pipes save lives, helmets are dangerous or have no effect on safety, armor in jackets is stupid, you don't need a front brake, full face helmets are dangerous cause they isolate you from traffic, or some of the other more ridiculous myths that find some believers in the HD world. Problem is as a group we sometimes get defined by the idiots among us.
I've heard rumors about this, but I really didn't get the full spectrum until I owned one. I can't believe that there are some people who absolutely hate Harley's. I just can't understand that. When I go for a ride, I acknowledge everyone on two wheels regardless if its a crotch rocket or a metric cruiser. I ride with several guys that ride crotch rockets.
I just can't believe how many people loathe Harley's. It's actually comical to me....why waste your time?
The oldest Harley dealer in Ohio is right down the street from me, so this is a motorcycle town pretty much and for the most part, you don't get that crowd vs. crowd I ride this and that kind of crap. I dunno, I just can't grasp it.
I don't care what it is just ride it! I just can't see the big deal. Can't we all just get along! lol Some people will always like conflict I suppose.
