I think it depends on the age of the people you work with and the industry you are in. At my work my bike always has people around it and commenting on it. I think most sport bike riders see the difference between each type of sport bike. Same goes with cruisers. Ask any Harley owner to point out the difference between 2 Harley's and they can recognize them. Now ask a Harley owner the difference between a GSX-R and a CBR they have no clue. Same goes for sport bike riders. Most think all cruisers look alike. I really could care less what anyone rides. I choose a sport bike. I like being able to go to a track and put my knee on the ground if I want or can still cruise the twisty roads in the mountains (*** hurts after about 2 hours). I will wave to anyone on 2 wheels if you don't wave back because of the bike I'm on that's your problem. As far as the poster I quoted goes I don't see how you can say anything negative about someone wearing proper protective gear. I'd rather look like a power ranger when my bike low sides then wearing the tennis shoes bandanna and sleeveless shirt you are wearing any day. You dress for a crash not to try and look like a bad ***. To me you don't look like a bad *** makes you look like a moron for not being prepared for a crash.

Harley Haters?
Yea, I get it - the thread not the problem.
On my second bike ( a Kawasaki Sports) I rode up on some bikers (Ohio Iron) and they, of course were on Harleys and sorta gave me that "look" - I was too young or too stupid (or both) to get it. They took off and strangely a few days later I ran into one of them at a bar, and we started talking bikes, and invited me to a charity ride (yea Club Members can do good stuff) after my arrival they realized I was "that guy on the rice burner" but we had gotten past that and were friends - point is I was accidently allowed in the group "unofficially" (I was not a prospect) and was nicknamed "KIT" (Kawasaki In Tow)
We're a strange people - we all want to be apart of something thats special that everyone can't be, but groups we can't be apart of (or aren't) , we find reasons to talk down.

With all the real problems in the world to focus energy on, what a waste

I ride a Harley - But I ride with anyone on two wheels (except mopeds - sorry!)

yeh I have to say I don't understand it... ride what you got because you ENJOY it. Riding ISN'T an image! It's separation from our REAL LIVES.

A buddy I ride with was always saying how people who ride rockets are all idiots and they shouldn't be allowed on the road....

He came over about 3 weeks ago for me to weld something on his truck. When I opened the garage door he walked in to find my truck, the Deuce he's so acquainted with, and a 2008 Ducati 1098. I don't think he knew what to say so I just laughed.

Now he catches himself saying those things and he looks at me. I still can't help laughing about it, his confusion was priceless.

The other thing I laugh about is when I'm on the harley and older people than me pull up on a rocket and act like they're this young hipster on a fast bike and I'm an old dude on a cruiser.... then they see I'm in my early twenties and they take a closer look at the bike....

Yeh, my hobbies don't have any room for worrying about stereotypes.

Bump, I ride all types of bikes and hear the same sheet from the crotch guys to the harley guys. whats the funniest is the harley guys dont know the chopper/custom guys laugh at them and think of them as the HD crowd thinks of the metric cruiser guys. Its just funny how what goes around comes around.... you can check out some of the old shows and guys like billy lane and jesse james rip on HD's

I just got a fatboy after a 40 year lapse in bike ownership. Last bike was a 1964 Triumph Bonneville. I love the chrome, the noise, and the torque of the Harley. I own an exotic sports car that is the antithesis of American engineering. I get a woody every time I drive it and women of all ages love it and yes I have gotten lucky because it is a great ice breaker for good looking women. I don't care what anybody thinks about my worldly posessions or my private thoughts. It is my life and I am enjoying it. I am intrigued by the Triumph Rocket.

Been riding for 30+ yrs and have met very few Harley haters. Most of the older crowd have ridden Harleys at some point and then settled on whatever they ride for various reasons. Either way they usually respect a persons choice of ride. I would say the vast majority of non Harley riders i meet usally say "if i could afford one then i'd have one."

First of all, I think the number of people out there that actually "hate" Harleys is truly miniscule. I've known guys who will look at a Harley and say " why would you buy that?" but never witnessed any outright animosity towards the brand or a rider because they are on one.

I think its simply a case of sometimes not understanding why a rider chooses the bike he or she does. We all have our attributes we want in a bike and thats gonna vary from person to person.

Personally, I'm not a huge Harley fan in general. I've riden a few from time to time and have found that, obviously, as a whole lot of other people have, they are a great traditional v-twin cruiser. Just happens to not be my thing. When it comes right down to it I just prefer something a little sportier.

Having said that, Harley makes what I think is one of the coolest bikes ever made, the V-rod. How about some more inovations like that Harley?
Unfortunately, more than a few Harley purists I've talked to seem lukewarm to this non traditional version of their brand. Perhaps its the nostalgic retro vibe of a bygone era thats the key to Harleys popularity? If so, I can relate to that, I'm a sucker for an old Triumph or Royal Enfield myself.

The funny thing about the V-rod is that on the flip side, some sportbike riders diss it cuz its a Harley. It just cant win, lol. Its like the bastard red headed stepchild. Kinda makes me like it all the more.
