So I go to the Harley Dealer today to see the new 2007's, and the Schwinn Motor scooter Simi Harley has decided to sell (no I don't know why).
While I'm there I decide I really need to get a windshield bag for the trip and a highway peg setup. So I have the parts guy help me pick out a mounting kit for the pegs that match my bike. He was OK with the helping but didn't tell me I needed a "Foot Peg Bolt kit" to install the pegs[:@] Of course now they are closed.
I went out to put them on an couldn't figure out where the extra bolts were it shows in the instructions then I read the instructions...Argh! So now I won't get to try them out for a ride I had planned tomorrow....sigh. Stupid Stealer Parts dude....
Kick his A$$,,just kidding,,they do that to me all the time,,you have to find out what you need first and tell them exactly word for word or you will get nothing,,sorry for your Stealers lack of knowledge...
Last week I went to the dealership to order a few extras for my Heritage Classic thats supposed to be shipped the end of this month. I was amazed to find out you have to order the bolts separately from the highway peg mount which is also separate from the pegs, WTF, there has got to be a better way. Then when I started to order passenger floorboards, now thats a long list of extra parts to buy.
I'm suprised that the dealerships don't sell the motorcycle without wheels and tires, "Oh you have to order those if you want to actually ride the bike". I guess after a while I'll learn how to deal with the dealerships or learn how to work around them.
There's other places cheaper for chrome bolts, etc. if you have to have them. Home Depot's are good for stainless bolts with allen heads and Grade 8 bolts that don't shear and break off like the cheap HD ones...[:@]
Funny we were talking with the guy about a nice bolt to go in the fender bib (been riding around with the stock one that has a second bolt hole in the top for the seat) The Parts guy recommended a decent solution....just couldn't rememer the bolts for the pegs....sigh
We used some not so shiny ones to get them hooked up for a test ride.

I did: had the right side passenger floor board and bracket fall off at 70mph when the factory HD bolt snapped. Passenger was less than 100lbs and needless to say very little weight on the floorboard at highway speeds. Doesn't matter where a bolt comes from, they can all fail, regardless if they are brand name or not.

When I removed the HD saddlebags the provided HD bolt just broke off. [:@] Returned them with the broken bolt...the parts guy laughed.
