Smile Cleaning Spark Plugs

Reading the plug posts and am wondering how you guys clean your plugs? I generally just wire brush with a small brush and check the gap with feeler gauge. Wonder if causing damage with wire brush on electrode tip? Are you supposed to use a wire gauge instead of feeler gauge?
Thanks, Pete

wire gauge is meant for plugs..I have a can of intake cleaner, it it removes all the chit off the plugs without brushing. back in the day we used a small sand blaster set up to clean plugs

You shouldn't need to clean plugs if the bike is set up properly, however, plugs can break down relatively quickly. I replace them approx. every 5000k miles instead of cleaning them since they are relatively cheap and on a V-Twin fresh plugs feel good.

I don't know what year it started, but the recommended replacement interval is 20,000 mi. as of 09, . I replaced mine at 10k, but my indy's older manual showed them at 10k.
They came out bright white thanks to the severe lean running condition these bikes come out of the factory with. Waiting on fuel moto to arrive to put an end to that.

Plug condition is really more of a diagnostic tool....replacement is cheap, but the tale they tell is of far more importance. In fact, a fresh set of plugs tell a much more obvious story.

If I take mine out, I throw them away and install new ones. There are cheap enough that I would not even try to clean them, unless I was stuck on side of the road somewhere and had a problem with them.

Hell, I'm using the same plugs in the B-T from 2007...Don't need to clean them!

Now the Sporty is another story...I carried 3-sets of plugs when riding that cantankerous beast!!!

+1......then I would go to a Kragen or O"Reilly and buy some new Champion plugs for $2.00+ each.
