Harley says it must cut $54 million in local manufacturing costs

Harley-Davidson Inc. (HOG) is seeking to cut millions of dollars in costs from its Wisconsin manufacturing plants, or those operations could be moved elsewhere, the company told employees Thursday.
At risk would be more than 1,400 jobs at the company's plants in Menomonee Falls and Tomahawk.
This also sounds like pre-contract tone setting ! The union does not have a collective leg to stand on. The Unions are pretty much S O L, with the economy in it's present situation. The Mo Co could also be pressuring Wisconsin for some tax relief.
Like it or not heavy manufacturing in this country has pretty much taken "The Big ****", every company is outsourcing, to overseas sweat shops.
(Now for the soapbox part!) This is going to continue, until the lazy *** American public puts their foot down on buying crap from overseas. This country cannot survive without a manufacturing base! You can't have an economy that works, with everyone working at the video store, or the cell phone store or delivering pizzas. It will not WORK ! JMHO!

Between the greedy unions ( and the extra management of thiers that mut be paid for.... off the backs of thier workslaves) and the tax and cost of generally doing business in wisconsin , perhaps they would move all but the head office to a southern state where states and worker will appreciate a fair wage and taes.
I would not blame the Unions for part of this, I think a lot may have to do with the new (closing loophole) taxes Wisconsin passed. It was reported that HD had to pay an additional 22 million in new tax because of this new law.
