The ones who don't wave back are usually the Harley riders under thirty who are clean shaven and have real short hair. Half helmet or beanies. Black googles, black t-shirts, and Blue jeans and black boots.
HEY, Wait a minute...ok, I'm not under 30 and I'm not clean shaven, so that's OK...I do have the half helmet and short hair, so that's not good...My goggles are actually grey, so I think I'm ok there...my boots ARE black, but they're my old combat boots, so I could probably sneak that one by...lots of black t-shirts though, blue jeans will have to go. I do use a backpack to carry my laptop and files back and forth to work - that CAN'T be good.

So what's that mean for me? Mezzafanuc?

AN OPEN APOLOGY FROM A METRIC HEAD:
I'm also an owner of a Hayabusa. It's a 300 hp turbo'd beast. I don't feel that this makes me any better or different than any other biker out there. We all ride because we love to ride. I'm a little embarrassed about a fellow metric bike owner coming onto a Harley forum and throwing crap at it's members. How in the hell are these guys suppose to respond to your question when you say waving back is a 'common courtesy'. Do you mean to imply that Harley riders aren't even up to 'common' standards?
Try to pull this crap at a Bandito ralley and see where it gets you. I'm guessing that on average, this forum is made up of more civil members than some of the more notorius outlaw bike gangs. The members here are more likely to wave back, unless they get pissed off enough about being taunted by metric smart asses.
There are non wavers on every kind of bike out there. I try to wave back whenever I see anybody give me the wave. Quite frankley, it gets frickin exhausting. Sometimes it takes away from the solitude and peace that a ride can bring. Sometimes I get burned out and stop waving. It's not to be rude, I just want to get into the ride. I don't think I'm alone in this, and I don't think there is any great disperity of non wavers between the standards and the metrics.
As I've been typing this I have been thinking about the whole waveing thing. I wave MORE to Harley riders than I do to sport bikers.
best response yet.

an analogy...i used to own a boat, most give the boat wave, some do not...

I completely disagree with you. It is not HD riders that do not wave, it is people who choose not to to wave that do not wave.
Agreed, i have noted that in the spring when it's still cold and damp, and in the fall, most bikers wave, but when July and August get here (nice weather) many less wave back.

My conclusion is that the ones not waving are the novelty bikers (posers if you will), real bikers will return a wave if they can. There are times ( hand on the clutch, a hazzard to deal with, etc),when i may fail to wave back.

Boy has this thread gotten blown out of proportion.

Part of the problem is that the Sport bikes other than HD's are speeding so damn fast, weaving in and out of traffic, they 're gone before you see them and that's a fact!!!!!!!.

I can't believe this thread is still going. I feel like I'm on a Corvette Forum.

Covettes have the wave thing, So do Jeeps (the CJ type) and Extreme Blazers and Pickup tend to have it too.

Wave or don't. I wave to most everyone, if they don't wave back it's no biggie.

Corvette drivers wave at each other? Wouldnt they have to roll down their windows all the time?
