The "biker" wave
I am busy adjusting my bikini top
My bangs blew into my eyes and I did not see you
I was too busy looking for some Mexican food
I was too busy looking for some BBQ
I thought you were waving to the big twin Harley behind me
YOU did'nt wave to me the last time, so screw ya
I thought you were fanning away a fart
Mother told me not to wave at strangers
As for pandem1c:
I try and make every effort to wave to everyone i pass on 2 or 3 wheels....not sure about any other HD riders.
Sometimes I don't....reasons are I'm zoning out and didn't see you, I'm holding in my clutch, turning, scratching my azz, etc.
If anything I would say that I have the same problem as you but with sport bikes. I feel like every HD or cruiser/touring bike I wave returns the gesture. However, I feel like only half of the crotch rockets do. I don't hold it against them, I don't really care because until I realize they're not going to wave back they're already behind me.
I'm also an owner of a Hayabusa. It's a 300 hp turbo'd beast. I don't feel that this makes me any better or different than any other biker out there. We all ride because we love to ride. I'm a little embarrassed about a fellow metric bike owner coming onto a Harley forum and throwing crap at it's members. How in the hell are these guys suppose to respond to your question when you say waving back is a 'common courtesy'. Do you mean to imply that Harley riders aren't even up to 'common' standards?
Try to pull this crap at a Bandito ralley and see where it gets you. I'm guessing that on average, this forum is made up of more civil members than some of the more notorius outlaw bike gangs. The members here are more likely to wave back, unless they get pissed off enough about being taunted by metric smart asses.
There are non wavers on every kind of bike out there. I try to wave back whenever I see anybody give me the wave. Quite frankley, it gets frickin exhausting. Sometimes it takes away from the solitude and peace that a ride can bring. Sometimes I get burned out and stop waving. It's not to be rude, I just want to get into the ride. I don't think I'm alone in this, and I don't think there is any great disperity of non wavers between the standards and the metrics.
As I've been typing this I have been thinking about the whole waveing thing. I wave MORE to Harley riders than I do to sport bikers.
Everyone here seems pretty cool, so any kind of "hatred" I might have harbored towards HD owners I've seen on the road shouldn't reflect on the entire HD community. It also goes both ways, as someone here stated that he has seen sportbike riders not wave back.
Anyway, I'll continue to wave when I can and accept whatever gesture I get in return.
Thanks for listening and understanding. Stay safe.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
very well put!
i must say this has been very amusing....being new here, and not seeing the other threads about waving yet, i didnt really expect the response that this thread got.....btw, i wave, regardless of the bike others are on....dont always get the wave returned....but thats ok....it's not gonna pizz me off or make me upset cause someone didnt wave back.....im in it for the love of the ride, not to count how many waves i get!
