Just wondering if anyone has ever tried riding with an ipod... not hooked into the radio but with the actual ear plugs. I thought if i put the headphones in with a little tape that they would stay. I also have a windshield so the wind is blocked down a little.
I have used the i Pod several times. I use the Sony earplugs that loop around the ear. My daughter uses them for running and they stayed in good for me. I also have some covering over the ears from the helmet. I'm using Screaming Eagle mufflers and have about half the baffle cut off so it is louder, but not too much. I actually used a runners armband and put it on my right arm so I could turn up the volume etc. I did use a safety pin and pinned the arm band to my shirt so I was sure it wouldn't slide down and fall off if I was real busy in traffic. It didn't work too bad but I see Harley has come out with a case that has magnets and you put it on the gas tank. I have read several times that you need to be careful of the vibration from the bike as too much can mess up the i Pod. I really enjoy my music while I'm riding so I'm trying different things. Hope this gives you a few ideas.
I have skull candy headphones (in the ear) and even though the bike is loud they work. I just saw a bluetooth helmet that is supposed to be good even with loud pipes. If it didn't cost $500 I'd try it.
I use my iPod for longer rides and trips. It works fine. The only challenge is keeping the ear buds in place while putting on a full face helmet. Cycle Gadgets and J&M make helmet speakers with a iPod compatible connector. I might go this route to eliminate the ear buds.

I do it on longer trips as well. I wear a half helmet and can hear it OK with my windshield. Without the windshield it's kinda tough to hear. A good pair of foam earbuds that Fit and stay in the ear are necessary with half helmets. Here in Maryland the law says I can only wear one earbud while riding.
I saw a nice set of small handlebar mounted speakers I am looking into.
