I have started to post this a number of times and stopped. However, I was upset about my experience, I have decided to share it with anyone who's interested. I rode 2,200 miles from Oklahoma to So. Carolina and back last fall on a Heritage Classic factory seat. It was a great ride, but I began to move around after about 30 minutes. When I got home, I got on this forum and talked with a number of others regarding a new seat. Some said buy Corbin, others said Sundowner or Mustang. Ultimately, I bought a Mustang touring model with the backrest. I gave it a few weeks to get used to it. Time went by and I didn't send it back. I thought it might get better. Now I had a $700 one hour seat. While in Sturgis this year, I went by the Mustang tent just to see if there was anything that could be done to increase the riding time; maybe a different padding, or shaving or just anything to increase the comfort. The designer of the seat was there and mashed around on it and told me that he personally designed the seat, it was their most popular seller and there was nothing wrong with it. He asked me how long I could ride the factory seat and I told him 1/2 hour. He then asked me how long I could ride the Mustang seat and I told him 1 hour. He said,"See there, we increased your riding time by 100%." Never will I recommend this product and this smartass punk will not be invited to lunch. It just felt like that now they have my money I can **** off. I realize some of you may have Mustang seats and might like them. I would be surprised that any of you can stay on it longer than an hour or so without moving around. Although they are definitely have a better base plate than the stock Harley seat, I think they are over-sold, over-played and over-priced. Also, many told me not to buy gel. I finally wound up buying an AirRide memory gel blanket the next day in Sturgis and finally got some relief. With this blanket on the new Ultra stock seat, I can ride 3 hours and the butt dogs are not yet barking.
Wow.... that's too bad. That sure has not been my experience. I had Mustang's on 4 different Harleys, and I'm sure on my next one too. I will say that the one we had on my wifes Heritage, was much harder... probably something to do with the different (textured) cover.
I have no issue with long rides. Heck, I've done three IronButt's and ridden all over the country. They are good for me. but.... that does not excuse crummy cust svc, or smart azz remarks like you mentioned above... That does blow...

Well I was going to ask your age, but Diesel Boats have summed that all up for me in a nut shell. Next question ship-mate, how is your posture, are you craining over to the handle bars with your arms straight out like that of wheel barro handles?
If so some of your riding problem may be the wrong handle bars.

I too have had great rides on my Mustang seats. I'm on my second bike and second Mustang seat. My current bike is a Road King Classic and I have Mustang seats for front & rear with the Mustang backrest for me. I rode on a 320 mile group ride the other day with the local HOG group and was ready for more! Everyone is built differently, so one brand of seat will not fit one guy like the next. Like you said, it really is a $700 gamble when you buy a custom seat. You can't sit on someone's bike/seat and make a true call on comfort unless you run it down the road for several hours.
Maybe you can find someone who will give you close to purchase price for your Mustang and then try another brand... Good luck and let us know how it works out.
If you have fwd controls the seat is not the problem, but will appear that way first. It's because you are sliding fwd in the seat, not pressing back. I have about a 1hr limit on my Ironhorse with a great Danny Gray seat, and about the same on the Bob (stock) b/c the fwds on it are more like extended mids to me (6'2).
Sorry to hear about your problem. The seat problem aside, there is no excuse for **** poor customer service like you got. It's too bad you didn't get the fool's name and then call Mustang directly. I have a solo seat on my Dyna and find it very comfortable on longer rides. I've only made one call to Mustang and it was handled very courteously and with no problems.
I found their seats too hard and uncomfortable too. I had the one-piece touring seat on a Road King, and it was the single most uncomfortable seat I've ever had which includes many H-D, Corbin, and Saddlemen seats on various bikes. I thought it was a bad batch of foam in the Mustang based on all the good reviews, so I called them and they said to send it back in for a foam replacement. When I got it back, it was just as bad: almost as hard as a Corbin but flat as a board instead of curved and formfitting like a Corbin. I kept it for a while, but then sold it on ebay. I borrowed a buddy's wide vintage solo Mustang for a few days, but it sucked too. I'm sure the problem is my bony ***, since 99% of Mustang buyers like the seats. You might want to try somewthing with gel. That's the only thing that works for me.
Sorry about your bad experience with Mustang. A decade ago my wife and I bought Mustangs for our Kawasaki 1500 Classics. We put in up to 700 miles in a day with no numb butt. When she got a Heritage Classic we ordered a Mustang for it. It isn't nearly as comfortable as the one on the 1500 Classic. She can still put in a 600 mile day but it hurts. She says this saddle pushes her forward. However, this saddle is infinatly better than the stock trash HD puts on the Heritage Classic. I wonder if the frame design makes a lot of differance on how the saddle mounts. I just ordered a Saddlemens Road Sofa for my EG Classic. Hope I don't get the same experience as you.

I've been around the Harley boards, the Honda boards & the Kawasaki boards and I've seldom heard bad things about Mustang seats. I am thinking there may be other factors with your ride - like shock adjustment, bar position..etc?..and I had to send back a Mustang seat because the 2007 doesn't fit the new FI Sportster and probably won't until Spring I am told.
Bull, it's just a piece of chit. Looks good, not comfortable. No handle bar problems, no reach problems, no leg or peg problems, no problems other than the piece of chit seat.
