i think i'll build the road king the way i wanted. i may build out the chopper with the suzuki engine that's in it. just low budget, bare minimum and see how it turns out.
the twin cam 88 A engine doesn't seem very popular in choppers. i've got way too many projects and not enough room.
Customize the RK, and do a cheap hardtail project to see how you like it. I wanted a hardtail barhopper in the worst way......until I actually RODE ONE.
That cured my wants and desires. Those "Hardcore" guys can keep them. Every bump in the road etc. is unbelieveable. Railroad tracks and an expressway pothole will make you think you're breaking in two.
Rigid bobber is my next project... Got my eye on a shovel basket case, but then the walneck swap is next weekend, so i'll see what going on there. But if you got a daily rider, then rigid bobber would be a great project.
Definitely the RK. I think the "chopper craze" is about done for this cycle. At my local HD dealer it seems a lot of them are coming in on trade-in for baggers and other more "practical" bikes that the owners can ride and they don't have a $40 -65k asset tied-up in their garage they never ride.

i agree with the chopper craze being over in a sense but people are still going to be chopping harleys to make them more unique and cool. maybe not buying $50,000 garage ornaments as much but we will never stop altering bikes and going well beyond bolt on mods.
i'm definitely going with the rk after the input from you guys. i will still consider it a chopper because of the modifications i will make. i'm cutting off the fender struts, ditching the air shocks for coils or maybe even air bags and changing the mounting position, strutless rear fender(possibly mounted to the swing arm, and many other mods. it will be totally custom. it just won't have a big fat rear tire.
its going to be a moneky pit, and remember choppers per sey are a thing of the past there are tons for sale for pennies on the dollor just go to any of the old stores like occ, arlene ness they still have 08 for sale new at almost half the cost

but thats not a real chopper... Those are factory built bikes they call "choppers".
A real choppers and bobbers dont roll off a factory floor looking like that, they come in a stock format and are bobbed and chopped to the owners desire. Those never have been and never will be real choppers.
