I live in Ontario and will say the same thing I said years ago to the local fuzz " you can go suck my D_ _K". So i guess more ticket $$ to fund this cause. Every one needs to be vocal and stand up to the BULL **** !!
Well, sounds like the crackdown on loud pipes has started in Canada. The City of Edmonton in Alberta is set to start ticketing bikes with anything other than stock exhaust starting in July. They claim to be testing their equipment as we speak and will commence testing bikes shortly.
Apparently one city counciler attempted to get the by law amended to include ALL motor vehicles, as he felt that citing motrcycles alone was discriminatory. He was shot down by his fellow politicians who claim that cracking down on ALL motor vehicles was unenforceable.
Well that is what happens when big government is in place, especially with a Socialist model like Canada has. Taxes are high and freedom is low. Who is the government to say what you can and cannot do with the vehicle that you work hard to pay for, and has legally been registered.
This so called crackdown is just another form of "tax" placed upon the people...to further fuel big government and to continue giving more "free checks" to those that are too lazy to work..
Benjamin Franklin said that completely applies to today, that "when you give up your liberty for security, both are lost."
Potential good news. A Judge is reviewing ALL the tickets issued for the noise bylaw. Apparently someone fighting his ticket brought up specifics from the regulations the police are supposed to follow when testing, and the police that did the testing were completely unaware of the existence of the regulations.
I'll post more details when I get them. I'm looking at a court date in March for my ticket last year, and have no doubt I'll win because they screwed up the testing in my case even more than usual. My wife's ticket is going to be hard to beat, so I really hope they all get thrown out.
Considering they just had to refund thousands of photo radar tickets due to a technical screw up by the LEOs, this isn't going to look good for EPS.
I hope they get rid of it in Edmonton, I am planning on riding around in Edmonchuk this coming summer ( with my 113decibal scooter).
When I read the bylaw it seemed as though they are required to take the reading from the property line, with different acceptable levels for residential and commercial.
Tickets issued in our province aren't related to the decibel level, if its not OEM, you can get fined. Fortunately only a few cities will reinforce it strickly. Haven't been fined yet, but I'm not showing off either.
In Calgary I understand the police will be going with sound meters placed at different locations around the city. Make to much noise going past one and it will take your picture and you'll get a ticket in the mail, that goes for any vehicle not just bikes.

Let's be realistic folks, like most "sensible riders" here say over and over. When you are in an area where you should be quiet engage your brain along with your transmission, BE QUIET, and they will leave you alone. The police are not going to pull over a motorcycle doing the speed limit or slightly under it and ticket them when they see you are making all attempts to respect other peoples right to peace and quiet.
We had a situation here in Halifax NS. A hotel across the street from a local bar I frequent complained of the excessive noise at night, 2-3 in the morning. There was a group of bikers who would leave the bar, start their bikes rev them up and blast down the road. A week later the LEO's set up three blocks from bar. I rode by them several times travelling slow and not revvving the bike up ,waved and they waved back. Low and behold the noise makers (with same pipes as me) got pulled over and ticketed. Next night in bar they were bitchin about the 'noise *****' unfreakin believabe.
I love my loud pipes but also know there is a TIME and PLACE to take all measures to be quiet.
We have to stop blaming everyone else and be accountable or we will all be riding GOLDWINGS.
