No, it won't void your warranty, and yes, you must tear down.
I had it done when I did the big bore kit.
I had the heads, jugs, derby, timing, transmission cover, inspection and head bridge diamond cut, and my dealer sent the pieces out.
The pictures are not the best, but trust me, the finish is very impressive and makes the bike...

Diamond cutting would set that nice looking King off big time...
Here are a couple of better shots I took so you can get the idea of what it looks like on black.
My dealer charged me $600.00 for all of the work. It took almost 8 weeks for the turn around, but I did it during the winter, and I'm sure that was the busy season for the shop that did the work. Like ANY shop, I would do it in the winter because if they tell you two weeks, they mean two months.....

George, very nice looking work. Is there anything you would do different if you had to do it again? Also, do you think any HD dealer will do the tear down for me or is it a specialty job that only certain people will be willing to do?

I had a Stage II kit installed before the bike ever hit the road, so since I already was paying for the disassembling, I had them sent out.
I killed two birds with one stone.
I had my HD dealer do it for warranty purposes, plus most of the HD dealers run a winter special which also saved my another $300.00 on the Stage II
Would I have done anything different?
Yeah. Now that we all know the new stock number is 96 cubes, I would have done a bigger bore and stroke..
But that would have been for ego.
Actually, I am very satisfied with the power my bike makes. The 204 cam generates gobs of power right off of idle and it's as faster than I need...

I was at the dealer in Greenville SC once and they had a ride that had the diamond cut on one of the bikes on the show room floor. They said they send them out.
