just got 2010 Ultra its my first Harley love the bike just not loud enough stock. can I add slip ons without remapping or buying tuner, if so any suggestions as to which ones? and where to buy them. Just don't have the dollars for all the performance stuff after the new purchase. thanks
If you do not want to spend any money, just drill out the cat and drill out the baffle in the mufflers. You do not need to get a programmer unless you want more performance.
The EMC will adjust for both less restrictive exhaust and intake. They did publish this fact in the 06 Street Bob owners manual. The last issue of AIM had an article on programmers by Dr. Dyno and he also stated the the HD ECM will return the mixture to 14.7 to 1 with those mods so you will not gain any power just the sound that you want.
Keep in mind that the HD SE tunes still will keep the bike at a 14.7 to one lean mixture because that produces the least emissions. HD does not want to pay $10K EPA fine for each bike that they program.
Some of the programmers like Cobra Fi2000r will run the bike at 14.0 to 1 normal operation and 13.0 to 1 at WOT. That will give you more power and the motor will run cooler.
The 2010 have catalytic converter you would want save for any EPA testing to come. You find slip ons pipes any where (E-Bay) or come by my house you can have my RG pipes.
I'd suggest taking your time shopping for them before dropping the $$. Maybe visit your local dealer on Saturdays and listen to pipes on other bikes. Everyone has a different "ear" for what sounds good or what's too loud.
The most quiet slipon is probably the HD Screaming Eagle. For some they are loud enough. Others perfer something louder. I went with the Rush 1.75s and have been happy with the sound level. Rush told me they were the largest I could go w/o a fuel manager but alot of riders report no problems even with 2.0s which are louder.
Like I said, do your research and shop around before making a decision. And definitely keep your stockers. Should be able to find a set for around $250 and install is and easy DIY.

In 07 I was the first one that was tuned with a set of Rush at my dealer. They couldn't even get them. Ordered them from another dealer.
Other dealers were selling them as fast as the came in.
most went with 2'', and only 1/2 of them where doing stg1. with SERT.
Last yr I talked with a Rush rep and they now recommend no bigger than 1 3/4 with out stg1.
After I did the cams they are really a great sounding pipe now. lot deeper and hit harder.. quiet at steady ride but really sound good on acceleration.
