What is it with all these people on ebay thinking their bikes are made of gold? I know everyone wants top dollar for their bike and I don't blame them, however if you have a custom paint job it doesn't mean its work $5-7K more than it was when it was new. Are there really people out there buying these bikes? Must be because they keep asking top dollar for them. There was sweet 09 RG with a custom paint job and they want $23K for it. It only brought $15,100 and obviously didn't sell. I'm willing to give some extra for a custom paint job but these people are getting carried away. Hell you can buy a 1-2 yr old CVO model for about the same price or a few thousand more.
It seems that every few days we have a new thread commenting on how hogh prices are on ebay or craigslist. So what? If you see a bike that you want, but the asking price is too high, offer them what you're willing to pay. All they can say is no.
To a certain extent I made something of a living once by saving all the ads for seriously over priced Porsche's and Corvette's. Then I'd call them a few weeks after the ad had expired. I wouldn't explain my call other than to say that a friend knew that I was looking for a car like theirs and they'd written down the phone number for me while I was out of town. I would never mention their asking price . . . . ever! After looking at the car in person I would offer a fair wholesale price . . . about 1 time in 10 I'd close the deal. Usually these cars really were top notch specimens which is why their owners thought they were worth so much to begin with. Bear in mind that for whatever reason that someone has for selling an expensive toy . . . trust me, it took some time for this persons unfortunate circumstance to develop and in most cases it isn't going go away in a few weeks. But . . . they do get a dose of reality when no one calls, or in today's terms there are no bids on eBay . . . when they finally do get an offer (from me) they are so glad to get ANY offer they usually accept it as long as it's something within reason . . . even if below the "real" retail market price.
People bought these bikes with little or no money down, spent big bucks on mods (paint...ect) while still at the dealer and now they realize that they can't afford them.... They are also used to hearing about the "awesome resale value" of Harleys...
None of this excuses them for weak grasp of fiscal reality though...
Seen an interesting ebay auction because I own a 2001 Sporty like checking them now and then .. this guy put it up with No reserve nothing fancy basics and stock and started with bids like 100, 200 dollars then final sale was 7,300 I love my sporty and not for sale but offer me 7,300 just might let it go LOL

What other people do shouldn't be of any concern to you... I hope that everyone asking the big bucks for their bikes get it... brings the value of mine up.
That's funny cause I believe eBay brings in bottom line prices, nowhere near KBB. IMO, eBay is only a notch or two above going to the pawn shop. It's a buyers market and if you want to sell you need to be realistic and a little agressive in your pricing. There is alot of competition there.
