I've been riding for many years including the time I spent off-road when I was a kid. I've been down twice, once 25 years ago when I ran into a Volvo (yes, they are as tough as they advertised). Now when I go out, I find myself worrying more and more about the "what if I get taken out by a car". Do you guys worry about this when ride? Am I losing my edge? I always thought that when I started worrying when I ride, I'm getting dangerous. What do you think?
no... i suppose if i did worry all the time about getting hit or dying i wouldn't get much enjoyment out of riding at all, and that's really what it's all about.
what's up with all the doom and gloom topics here lately?
Nothing wrong with a little pre-planning, but if it gets to the point of making the ride unpleasurable, then I would look at stepping aside for a while or finding some where else to ride. I get like that in places like Atlanta, so I don't ride in or around there.
If anything that makes you a better rider becuse you are thinking and paying attention.
The guy who gets hurt at work alway says " I got to comforatable."
They also told us in MSF class (iknow dont beat me up to bad) that when to conforatable you will make rookie mistakes.
Just my 0.02
Worrying (or being afraid) is different than not getting too comfortable. Worrying makes the ride unpleasant, not getting too comfortable means you're aware of danger zones around you and being prepared to handle them if they come your way.

No, and I disagree that when you get comfortable and quit worrying that you are more likely to make a mistake. One can pay attention and still be comfortable AND safe. Enjoy the ride.
