SHEFFIELD LAKE Yesterdays robbery of Chase bank on Lake Road could be related to bank robberies in Lorain and Amherst, Sheffield Lake police Capt. Tony Campo said.
A white male entered the bank at Shoreway Shopping Center at around 3:58 p.m., showed the bank teller a note that stated he was robbing the bank and he had a gun in his waistband, Campo said.
The man got away with an undisclosed amount of money, Campo said. A witness told police the man took off on a motorcycle, but police have not confirmed what type of vehicle the man was driving.
Two patrons were in the bank during the robbery, but they were able to leave unharmed, Campo said.
The man was wearing a long-sleeve black T-shirt with a Harley-Davidson logo on the back, jeans, sunglasses and a baseball hat with a red bandana underneath. The suspect is described as 35 to 40 years old, about 6 feet tall with a slender build.
The suspect could be the same man who robbed an Amherst branch of FirstMerit bank, 160 Cleveland Ave., on July 16. A man with a similar description also robbed a Fifth Third Bank, 281 Broad St., Elyria, on June 17, and a Lorain National Bank, 4293 North Ridge Road, Sheffield Township, on June 28.
