It seems to happen at least once a year. Yes it hurts like a bitch for a while and it takes concentration not to fletch and crash. A few years back I road through a yellow jackets nest on a dirt bike. I recieved several stings to the legs arms and face. Oh, I almost forgot, multiple abrasions and bruises froming letting loose of the handlebars to slap at the little bastards!
Many years ago I was on vacation riding a moped (don't laugh) in Cozumel and some hornet looking thing flew into my tank top and popped me good. Barely got the crappy moped stopped without crashing and had to lay on the side of the road for a while to recover. Kept the bug in case I had an alergic reaction but all was OK after about 15 minutes. I've also had multiple bee stings while riding off road, those don't usually hurt much.
Best treatment for stings: Take a fresh onion and slice a piece off and rub the juice directly onto infected area. One treatment is usually enough. The pain goes away immediately.
had one hit me in the chest, fall to the seat, dazed and confused, look toward my defensless crotch, backed up all cockey, (no pun intended!) and proceded to sting me right in the *****, standing up on my pegs screaming, and holding my family jewels while doin' 65, racing to a stop light, jump off still screaming, my riding partner pulls up, asking what happened? after I finally explain the situation, he starts laughing so hard, he can't even get his kickstand down, and just lays his bike on its side, with tears of his own running down his face!! and to top it all off, there was a car at the light with these two really old people in it, and as I raise my head and look over, theres this 85 year old lady crackin' up watching me dying in pain!! thats a true story!!
riding up towards Sunset Mines Rd on the 97 connector from Kelowna to Merritt. I can only assume a bee of some kind flew into my long sleeve shirt and got stuck at the wrist. I didn't even know it was there..I just kind felt something...and then a little pinch.
I thought...what the hell was that and then I felt another pinch and another and by this time it started to FLUCKIN hurt!. I lowered my wrist to my leg and started to rub my wrist...then all hell seemed to break loose and the pinched became stings and in multiple succession.
By this time my wrist felt white hot and I managed to flick whatever it was out of my sleeve. I saw this black thing fall out onto the highway. all this had taken place at 110kms and hour and a span of 2000 meters. I pulled over at the first place I could and looked at my wrist. I counted 14 welts and one welt big enough that it had to have been multiple stings in the same place.
my wrist was ON FIRE and I felt a little light headed...I sat there till the feeling passed then road the rest of the way to Merritt (about 45 minutes) to a pharmacy to get some anti histamine.
made it home and had one sore, burning wrist for about a week....and the welts didn't go away for almost 2 weeks.
never did figure out what stung me but DAYUM don't want to run into one of those again.
Years ago while working as a landscaper I learned about the benefits of ammonia in treating bee stings. Bee venom is an acid, ammonia is a base. The two nuetralize each other. We used to keep a bottle of Little Bo-Peep ammonia and a wash cloth handy. When you got stung you went over and soaked the area in ammonia. With in seconds the sting was gone and there were no complications. Now I carry an AfterBite pen with me in the trunk of the bike. It is ammonia and mink oil. The mink oil holds the ammonia to the wound site and allows it to work. Here is a link to the After Bite http://www.tendercorp.com/product.ph.../sup%3E&id=178.
I also have one in the car and one in my golf bag. Understand I have been stung many many times over the years and have found the quicker you treat the sting the better.
