Default Race tuner

I have an 03 Ultra with just 7000 miles, I want to cool down the amount of heat coming from the engine, I already have screaming eagle mufflers and now I want to go tru duals.. Do I have to add the race tuner? I had a 07 Roadking a couple of years ago and put the rineharts on that one, and at the time they did'nt have a race tuner and said not to worry about it because I really don't have to have it. Put about 15000 miles on her with out any problems whatsoever.

Thanks in advance!

Stupid question: is your bike EFI? If so, some type of fuel management system is generally desirable to richen things up a bit. If it's carbed, you're likely good to go - richening up the mixture is a piece of cake.

Yes it's fuel injected, so was the roadking, and it's not a stuipid question, some 03's were carbed.

For me to install the racetuner it will cost another 500bux... so it is an issue, especially if I don't have to have it, now if I absolutely have to have it then it's a no brainer.

If it helps, Zanottis give @20% off HD parts, with no sales tax and minimal shipping charges.

They have the SEST (32109-08B), MSRP $459.95 for $358.74

Im not sure if that is backward compatible with a 2003????

Actually, I believe MOST were still carbed back in 2003. I have a riding buddy with an '03 Ultra and it is carbed.
Anyway, to answer your question: No, it is not absolutely essential for you to have fuel management at this time, since you are only going to modify your exhaust. If you were to modify your intake in addition to your exhaust, however, then it becomes essential. Your original concern, though, was about having your motor run cooler. To THIS end, fuel management is pretty much essential. You can go without fuel management and not do any damage to your motor, but if you want to bring down the running temps, then it becomes (as I said in my first post) desirable to have.

I have a question, have you ever disconneted your battery? If you have you should go back to reload maps.

No not to my knowledge, I bought this one back in March when it had only 4700 miles on the odometer... not unless the previous owner dissconnected it.. I'm in Eastern Canada, the bike was bought in NewHampshire.. so not quite sure of it's history. The local Harley Dealer checked the bike over and gave it a clean bill of Health and verfied that the miles were Original at least as far as he could tell. it looks like new.

Where I was going with that is I had mine Dyno the other day and was think SERT was fine. But I was told disconneted your battery your SERT goes back to default so if the battery is disconneted. You have to start over and the person that was doing the dyno for $600.00 dyno and map for me was the cheapest around.

One of my HD's is an 03 with FI. Like said above change out the exhaust probably doesn't require remapping but bike would run better. Dealer can only fatten bike so much. It wasn't enough for me so I bought a SERT and did it myself. After adding cams on top of stage one kit ---SERT came in handy again. Fat engines last forever--lean is mean. I like fat. There are other tuners out there but I got what I wanted.

You mean if you have to put a new battery in your bike or have the batt unhooked to work on something you have to reload maps or have your sert set again ? That really sucks if that is the case
