A while ago I posted this forum asking about the differences between the various HD touring models and I got some great responses. Thanks! After a couple a vists to dealers, it just had to be a black road glide. So after 30 plus years of riding and at the ripe old age of 48, I will take delivery of my new 2010 shiny black Road Glide this week. Yee ha!
Now here's the good part. In the past walking into a Harley dealer always made me feel a little abused. Here's the price (usually marked up a couple grand over MSRP) and if you don't want to pay it you're a loser and someone else will. And don't even think about trying to trade in that Japanese bike here! Sell it yourself then we'll talk. That's the type of attitude I always got. Like it was an honor and a priviledge to hand over $19000 of my hard earned cash to them.
Well this week I learned that a down economy is not all bad. I went to the dealer who was more than happy to take my 2006 Honda VTX in trade and gave me $1500 over blue book for it. He was also very happy to take another $1000 off the price (which was not marked up by the way) in order to make the sale and hit his end of month numbers. He was also glad to let me sleep on it without hounding me for a deposit because "it's the last one in stock and I'd hate to see you miss out on this bike". I couldn't believe it! No pressure and a great deal at a Harley Dealer!! It was a great experience. I'm one happy dude.
So while job losses, higher taxes and banks that don't want to lend money all really suck, It ain't all bad.
I love a story with a happy ending. LOL
Great choice by the way, when it comes time to upgrade my 99 RKC it will be for a Road Glide - the 011 Road Glide Ultra caught my eye.
You WON'T be disappointed! The RG handles beautifully, holds its line at speed and stands out against all the cookie-cutter batwings (no offense intended to all the Batwing folk).
Congrats! I'm in the market for my first Harley and am currently on a '07 VTX 1300R. Good to see you got a nice trade on your VTX! Currently deployed but when I return to Home Station I'm going to visit my HD dealers in NH and see what they can do for me.
