Default CAUTION when changing headlight!!!

My buddy with a Dyna decided to upgrade the bulb to a PIAA. After a 2hr. ride we stopped for lunch and I noticed his lens was shattered - not broken but full of cracks like a spider web. We took secondary roads and we were never behind a car or truck so no chance of a rock - plus it was`nt actually broken in pieces - just cracked all over but in tact.

Turns out he overtightened the chrome ring - not allowing for heat expansion.

Let this be your $100.00 lesson - tighten but not too much.

Default I believe the issue is more the intense heat

rather than expansion of the glass.

Intense heat means more expansion - having said that, the PIAA bulb is not supposed to be hotter than the factory - the HD mechanic said he`d seen it before and the ring was too tight.

another thing to watch is the plastic on the plug-end. Some technical reports recommend using an adapter plug that withstands the heat of the higher intensity bulb.

Just say'n that is what I have heard.

Default I could see where tightening

the ring would shatter the glass. I'm just surprised that glass would expand at all without breaking.
