For comparison my friend has a 07 SE Softail FXSTSSE Springer CVO 110 for sale with 1500 miles. 26k new & the dealer offered him 16 on a trade in December for a SG. He turned it down & he's looking for 17. Recall was done on the 110 cylinders. Bike is beautiful.
My cousin has an 07 Fatboy with radical paint tins. The bike supposedly has 10K in upgrades (incl tins) & only 800 miles! He has a 02 Deuce & added the Fatboy 2 years ago. Rode it once & sticks with the Duece. He wants 16K.
These are both garage queens.

There was an 06 fatboy on craigslist last week with all the goodstuff, less than 10,000 miles for 10,900 from a private seller (no sales tax) . the bikes you are looking at seem to be a little over priced.

You always have to pay sales tax when you register the bike.
You came to a motorcycle forum seeking wisdom. Ok, so far you've mostly gotten opinions.
After that don't tell anyone what you paid, unless you like hearing that you got screwed, because there is no shortage of asshats who will.
I dont think any "This vs. That" question can be answered with wisdom....even if a guy has owned each bike for 20 yrs its all still just a matter of opinion.
And the 2nd part of your statement......well, thats EXACTLY RIGHT!!
If you can't buy new now go to a locator. Bikes are selling cheap now. You can buy a New Fat Boy if you plan to do some road trips. If not you don't need the "extra weight" do you. Buy a New Street Bob if you use the bike for commuting. When you buy new solicit quotes from all dealers within a 100 miles. The prices vary. I know, I bought a new bike for cash and saved $1600 but it was a New 2009.

Yeah, they're over-priced, but with NO money to put down, and negative equity on the sporty, I feel lucky they're even willing to deal...
They're are a sh**load of bikes on CL here I'd pay less for...
It's a matter of instant gratification - I can either ride the sporty and try unsuccessfully to save the money for the bike I want, maybe for a few years- or I can get out from under the sportster, and ride the bike I really want while paying for it for the next 7 years
-I prefer to ride than to wish...
10000 miles on the '01 isn't bad at all IMO - I put that + on the 08 Sporty this year alone.
I really appreciate the opinions posted here. It helps to hear others' views...

You have a point, but it seems to me the op's question was more about the differences between the two bikes, and not so much the price. Also, like I said, you will always pay more buying from a dealer than an individulal. Prices are relatively easy to research...riding attributes of different models, not so much.
