just busting your *****..... if you like the look, go for it. like somebody else already said, it could be helpful if you have a less than stellar suspension setup to start with. could be the difference between a 1 hr rider, or an all day rider.....
I ran a Xbones seat on my Softail and it gave me a better ride than just the shocks and then I put on a CCI pogo seat and it gives me an even smoother ride. When it comes to smoothin out the bumps......More is better!
I'm doing something similar to you. I thought the same thing, "why have two sets of springs?" So I went with a solid mounted seat. Seat will be reshaped a bit to get rid of the pointy corner and cut down some.
For many years we had the center post with a spring in it and some of the seats had springs too! That was for comfort and my opinion is comfort is more important than looks and the older I get the more important it is!
