A while ago I saw on here a gps tracking device that is real time so someone can watch from their computer...anyone know what I am talking about? It had an emergency feature also...
Wish I'd seen that 2 years ago. I paid more than that to 'rent' one from the investigator to track the 'about to be ex' while she was screwin around. Worked real good.
From: Dallas, TX & Santa Fe, NM when I can find the time....
I got one for Xmas...get the newer one as the one in the above pic has some issues.
It's called the "Spot Satellite GPS Messenger" & runs about $120 - $150.
Very cool...used it on my latest big trip and sent "I'm OK" messages a couple times a day to my mom and my friends daughter who always worry when we're on a road trip. They loved it. Also, had a link on my FB page for friends to track my progress in real-time. I kept a little blog as well. Again, family and friends seemed to enjoy that aspect. If this link works, here's an example http://www.spotadventures.com/trip/view/?trip_id=201153
It doesn't have the greatest documentation, so if you get one, test drive it b4 a trip. I'm pretty tech-saavy and it wasn't until I was mid-trip that I figured out the real-time thing.
I also have a Spot II Satellite Messenger. Bought mine at REI. I got the Search & Rescue service too. I figure $12.95 is pretty cheap if I need a helicopter ride? www.findmespot.com
I have a Blackberry and Google Lattitude on the phone gives real-time location info that can be viewed from the internet. It also tracks location history that can be viewed with Google Earth.

But, it'll only do all of that if you have cell service. The Spot is satellite based and works most anywhere in the world. It doesn't need to be connected to a cell tower.
For example. You are riding in BFE and have no cell service. You have a blowout and run off the road. With your cell phone you either hope someone finds you or you walk for help. With a Spot, you hit the SOS button that sends a 911 call with your GPS coordinates and help is on the way. If you are injured bad, you're not visible from the road, and can't make a call or hit the SOS, the Spot will continue to send your location every 10 minutes until the batteries run dead. They are supposed to last 14 days. So if you don't show up, people will know where to look for you.

Here is what I have on my bike....pretty slick little device. Seems to be well thought out....works great. Texts and emails me, has a lot of features and is very easy to use.
