I ride a 2010 Electra Glide Ultra Limited and am trying to figure out the best way to get power to my Zumo 550. The Zumo is hooked up on the handlebar. I appreciate any help with this.
I saw one that the power cord came out of the clutch cable hole in the fairing. I asked and he had picked up power from the lighter circuit under the fairing cover. Mine plugs in to the lighter out let, I use a Nuvi 200.
Check gpsgeek.com for a power cord. Find a switched lead and ground and you should be in business. My 09 Low Rider has an accessory plug under the seat I was able to wire too.
I direct wired mine to the backside of the accessory outlet on my 2010 Ultra. Everything is fine until I plug in the cell phone charger. Blows a fuse every time. Evidently the Zumo and phone charger draw too much juice. I am going to pull everything off and wire the Zume directly to the battery as instructed in the HD mounting instructions......
In your fairing there is most likely an "extra" headlight wire. It has this on my 07 Roadking and that functions well as a power source for my Zumo. The Zumo does not draw much power at all.
I have a 2010 RoadGlide with a Zumo 660. I am not sure whether your bike is set up the same but I have an extra accessory switch, next to the Cruise Control switch. I bought a wiring harness from HD which plugs into a socket under the seat then ran the GPS wiring harness under the gas tank. This way when the GPS is not mounted on the bike I can turn off the power to the bracket.
I believe the part number for the wiring harness is 70264-94A (Switched Circuit Adaptor Harness). There wasn't a picture displayed so I am not 100% sure this is the right one.

Back of the "cigarette lighter" is great until you plug your Blackberry charger into the socket at the same time the Zumo is powered up. I replaced fuses all the way to Sturgis and back this year. Replaced 15 amp fuse with 20 amp with no change in the result.
