I have a 2007 electric glide classic, have vance and hines slip ons on now. Can i remove baffles and not hurt anything? Nothing else done to bike no download or nothing just slip ons 19000 miles on bike want louder. Friend told me it would not hurt anything because i have o2 sensors do you think he is right your opion is app.
When I pulled my baffles to re-wrap them, I took it for a short ride to see how it sounded. VERY loud and it sounded like a$$! Not good at all. You won't hurt anything, but I can't imagine you'll like the sound.

Baffles tend to take the high frequencies out of the sound spectrum. People who add baffles feel that the bike has a deeper, throatier sound. However, it is not that the baffles add bass, it is that they subtract harsh, tinny highs out of the mix. That's why (most) baffles offer a more pleasing sound.
I have a 2005 Electra glide with V&H slip on muffler, but have no idea if it has baffles.
I took them off and looked inside but can't see anything. Just a hole right through.
I bought the bike used.
I tried the stock mufflers but it sounds like a sewing machine. Don't like them, put the Vance& Hines back on. I would like to keep them on, but would like a little quieter.
Any help would help.
Thanks Gary

I have the V&H Straight Shot slip ons. They come without baffles but the baffles are available for about $50 a pair. Personally I like the sound without them
I have V&H basic slip-ons on my Road King. Two allen-head screws hold the baffles in. I took the baffles out...very loud and terrific loss of torque. Loved the sound with no baffles but the neighbors threatened to lynch me. Took my dremel tool and cut the baffles in half and reinstalled. Still loud(beautiful sound) and no loss of torque. After a day of riding and a resulting headache, I decided to buy new baffles. I still have a good sound, no headaches, and the neighbors have put away their nooses.

I think that there is a thread on the forum or you might have to use google that links to a web page on getting different sounds from various packing materials. The guy found one of the best sounds was to wrap the baffle with chord used from a fire place.
