A few months back when I still had the Sportster, I was looking to buy a new Sundowner seat. I had heard here on the forum that it will raise you up a bit and set you back a bit. What is a "bit" and would it make a difference? The answer is yes. Luckily I pulled into a gas station and noticed another Sportster with the exact same seat. He let me sit on it and I really didn't like how it changed my sitting position.
Do your best to try and find one to sit on first, or buy one that will give you a return option.

I agree the Sundowner pushes your riding position back on a Sporster, my wife has a Sporty with the Sundowner seat but when I installed one on my Wide Glide, it didn't change the position at all. Guess each model is different. I have no idea what it does to Softails.
I have a C&C Sport Tour on my RK Custom and it's pretty comfortable. As another poster mentioned, I find that my back actually hurts a bit less when I take the backrest off. Go figure. So far I don't think that this seat is as comfortable as the Mustang that I had on my Sportster, but the leather on the C&C is much better at preventing monkey butt. Too bad Mustang doesn't come in leather, or the choice would have been easier. FWIW, that is not the C&C seat in my sig picture. I just haven't taken a more recent photo yet.
Thank you for the help and suggestions. Do you all with the Mustang solo seat use the back rest or prefer it with out? I'm going to Reno next week for Street Vibrations. Mustang will be there and hopefully others. I'll try some seats out ther. Thanks again.

I have a mustang solo with a backrest for my 2010 that I inherited from my wife who has a 2009. She found the seat too hard during longer rides. I use it and it is harder than previous mustang seats that I have had on my touring bikes in the past. I attribute that to the smaller size and narrower body. She just got an Ultimate seat delivered Friday. She currently out on the road for work and she has yet to try the seat. I will probably put it on my Heritage today and ride a few hundred miles to test it. I've heard good things about the Ultimate and will post pics and my thoughts later today. One thing you don't want to do is go cheap, I like my stock seat but need a backrest to avoid slouching and having lower back pain. I purchased a cheap $80 backrest and it was not designed correctly. I returned it and will now use the Mustang, for now. I feel the seat is the most important mod that you make.
It's hard to buy a seat when the stores don't stock them and you can't try them out before purchase from store or on the net.
I have 2010 FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic and need a backrest on driver seat. Harley Signature can be bought for a bit over $400 but looks kinda funky in the book. Mustang with driver backrest and pillion is about $700+. C & C is somewhat less than Mustang. ANY ADVICE?
Wish I had seen your post earlier. I just traded my 2010 Heritage and had the Mustang Seat, Pillion, and driver backrest for sale. I sold it for half of what I paid for it just to dump it off. Very nice seat, but not worth the $700 I paid for it. It's wider than the Harley seat, but the Harley seat is pretty comfortable to me.
