I'm pretty new to this forum, so please bear with me. I'm interested in a Softail Deluxe that has fishtail pipes.( Used). It is a 'bit' too loud for my taste. The owner says he had a stage one upgrade done. What "inexpensive" options do I have to make the bike quieter? I also dont particularily like the fishtail pipes. Thank you.
You can usually find some decent mufflers from those who swapped out the stock pipes. Then you can shop around for baffles to give them the sound you're looking for.
Kinda pricey for new, no matter where you get them. 'Sparklies' are like that...
Search on the Softail Forum and see what kind of pipes you like, then search on Ebay or similar for a clean used set. You can also post in the WTB section on HDF too.
The original pipes were given away. Is it difficult to put mufflers on? The owner said he had the EFI "remapped"? When the FishTail pipes were put on. So I will have to look at some clean used stock pipes.
To take it back to stock you're going to need stock header pipes and mufflers. Shouldn't be too hard to find them on Ebay or elsewhere for a couple/few hundred.
If you're interested in this particular Deluxe, perhaps you can factor that into the negotiated price.
A lot of people don't know this, but many Harley dealerships have what's called a "take-off" room. It's filled with stock stuff, like pipes, that people have had taken off & replaced with custom pipes. A lot of them have zero miles 'cause new bike owners will have 'em replaced before they even take delivery. The dealers usually hold the stock pipes for 10 days in case the owners want them, but they almost never do. They will usually GIVE you the stock pipes, just to save them the trouble of getting rid of or storing them. Just call 'em & ask if they have any Deluxe pipes in the "TAKE OFF" room. Got 2 sets of stock pipes in my garage right now that my local dealer GAVE me just to get them outta the shop. I'd give 'em to ya for free, but neither are for a Deluxe. When going from aftermarkets back to stock pipes, you usually don't need a remap; my experience has been that a remapped bike will actually run BETTER with stock pipes back on.
I have a pair of used stock pipes for you since I applied S&S slip on Shotguns on my Heritage Classic With the by us engineered BAVO adjustable dB killers you can change your soundlevel in ten seconds with a delivered T-wrench. But when you will take care of the UPS costs I can ship these standard pipes to you for free...
