Default 2002 ignition switch

I have a 2002 Fatboy and the ignition switch is starting to act up. If I turn it to ignition everything comes on as normal, but if I touch or move it a little the odometer and lights turn off and it i wiggle it everything turns back on. Has anyone opened the switch to repair or clean the connections? I'm going to order a new switch and was wondering if anyone has removed the barrel lock and put it in the new switch. My local dealer says a new switch with matching lock will cost $107. and a week for it to come in. Thanks for any info anyone has.

1+ on the loose wire & it's a cheaper fix.

I had the same problem a week ago. It was the switch. I took it apart and it is not a serviceable piece. I bought a replacement off ebay for less than $20 shipped. I now have two keys, but that's no big deal.

I've taken the switch apart. Remove the console and disconnect the wire connector. Remove the 4 screws and the switch comes out. On the bottom of the switch is a c-clip that has to be removed. Be carefull because when you remove the c-clip the bottom plate will fall out along with three little springs and three copper contacts. When you remove the c-clip, turn the switch over holding the bottom plate with your finger. Carefully lift the switch body up separating it from the bottom plate. The spring and contacts should stay with the bottom plate. You can now clean the contact surfaces.

thanks for the reply tombeving, i did notice a little corrosion on the connector contacts on the switch and the connector pins. i cleaned the 3 switch contacts and the took out the cables from the molex connector and cleaned those as well. i did notice there was a little corrosion on one of the little copper pins in the switch, the ones that turn to the ignition spot. i was thinking about trying to clean those off a little, but mainly want to get the barrel lock out and put into a new switch. i found the same one in J&P cycles for $29.99, not sure how the dealer comes up with $107. for the same part.
