Interesting .if you go to redwingshoes.com, their search engine comes up with a zero when you search for model #2990. And the only engineer type boot they show is the #998, which is different than the 2990. If you go to Red Wing Europe, their web site shows and lists the 2990, maybe thats why these particular ones are made in China.
You can however, purchase the 2990 from many places on the web here in the US. The irritating part is that they are still getting 230 bucks for a Chinese made boot when all other Chinese equivalents are half that.
Personally, I cant buy footwear online, I have wide feet and a shallow arch, I must try on shoes or boots before buying them. I would say that 98% of all shoes and boots are going to make my feet hurt. I know most people are not like that and can buy online. Everyones dogs are different, for me, every Red Wing I have ever tried on does not feel right, but again thats me. I did try on the HD Big Sur, they felt better for me but way too heavy. I got to have a light boot heavy sucks!
Of the many that I have tried on, what felt the best so far is the HD Radcliff, which Im told has/is being discontinued. The pair I tried on was a half size to large, my size they were out of. I thought about buying them online since I know how they feel and some places are still selling them. But I would still like to try on my actual size before buying.
Here's the HD Radcliff:
I actually own these boots (Got the last in my size) they are so freaking comforatable straight from the box. I walked around in them all day to break them in and honestly, I didn't have to! Also, they are so light it feels like a running shoe! Not that I would condone running in em!
I do not know where they are produced HD Big Sur Boots ... in China, Taiwan or elsewhere. The label reads that are manufactured by Wolverine, on order and under the control of H-D.
I will say again that these are great boots and their only problem is that they are too heavy for walking.
In the accident, my foot was between the motorcycle and asphalt more than 3 meters. Boots has been destroyed, but my foot no damage. I think this is the supreme test
Have one of my new Big Sur boots in hand at this moment.
The label says nothing about Wolverine. It just says, "Made in China"
Google redwing motorcycle boots. I have wore redwings all time time and they are just hard to beat. Not all rewing boots are made in China some are still made in the USA.

I am not fimilar with HD boots. I have worn Redwings for years at both work and riding. The HD boot looks like a copy of the RW boot. Red wings are a work boot. People wear them to ride also. The HD boot is a riding boot that HD markets. I am sure they are a good boot. Redwings will take alittle while to break in. You could find the weight at each of their web sites. I think the Redwings might last longer. Redwing has re-sole program. it was 65.00 last time I sent apair in, but I am in the states. If the HD boots you had worked out and you were happy with them save the bucks and get another pair. If you want something more heavy duty, spend the bucks. I saw these: http://www.theworkshoe.com/red-wing/...cycle-boot.asp
I just looked at half a dozen Chippewa boots today and they were all made in China. I am wearing Wolverine boots now but I am going to look at some Redwings.
The problem with some of the boots mentioned, they can be hard to find, plus i wear like a 13-14 B which is also hard to find.
