Default No more SEII's?

I have heard a rumor that because of the new EPA regulations the SEII pipes will be "retired" along with a lot of other performance upgrades. Rejetting/remapping will not be allowed on any bikes; both 2006 and pre-2006. Is this true? Anybody know? I was planning on paying the Harley tax sometime in the future (SEII pipes, air cleaner, rejet), but I may get up and do it earlier if this is true.

I believe that these restrictions will apply to 2006 and later model years.
If you currently own a 2005 or earlier, you will still be able to modify it in the future.
The restrictions are on the model year rather than a blanket restriction on all bikes.

This is my understanding (which I hope is correct)

I read the same 2006 and up are not allowed by dealership/repairshop/owner to be modified emissions wise (air intake, exhaust, etc).

Now, on 2005 and down to I forget what year, it is STILL illegal to modify emissions. However it is the owners responsibility, not the dealerships if you have them install, say, loud pipes and get pulled over.

Kind of like stores that sell and install radar detectors then tell you it's illegal to use. (for those of you that live in a state like mine!)

So, if we buy a 2006 Road King Custom, we have to stick with the stock pipes? To me, sound is a huge part of a Harley. The stock pipes do not say Harley to me! Won't this hurt sales? Maybe we should buy a 2005 instead?

Just curious. Does ANYONE leave the stock pipes on?

I was going to untill the 1000 mile service, but couldn't do it. Got the SE2's at about 300 miles. Believe it or not, catalytic converters are here on some bikes and will be on all bikes soon, hence the rule about removing/changing exhaust. Sad to say that a vehicle that gets 40-50 mpg has to have restrictions on it.

I have 135 miles on my 2005 XL1200C and my husband is installing the SEII's as we speak! I just couldn't stand the stock sound.

Heather, you told us in another post that you were going riding for the weekend. 135 is not riding, that's warmup.

Just bugging you, don't take it serious!
