Haven't used Shell 1974. 91 from 76 or Chevron.

One hose or three doesn't make much difference. For the small amount of fuel left in the hose compared to the amount you are going to pump won't change your octane much if any. The blend valve takes care of the octane you receive in your tank.

As far as sludge is concerned most if not all stations use 1 micron filters long before it reaches your tank. Hopefully your fuel filter is working and it will catch whatever if anything that gets through.

It is a lot better now days than when I grew up. Most if not all underground tanks are fiberglass or something of that nature you and don't have the metallic breakdown the only steel ones had.

Fill 'er up and ride.

shell is all i use!!! try it on a carbed bike... shell vs any other shell will win every time the ping you are hearing is clean valves... when you put racing fuel in a high performance motor ie a race car you will hear that ping and ITS A GOOD THING!!

Ha! Me too. If it's on the right and all I gotta pull on in, and ther's plenty of room, I'm in. I do stay away from places that look run down though unless I really NEED gas NOW. Lol

My bike is bullet proof when it comes to gas; drinks anything 91 or better and never pings or burps. Agree with the IYAOYAS guy above regarding filtration at the pump. Some of you guys worry too much.

I remember a story about Shell V power fuel. It was said to damage some sort of motor part, I can't recall what part, in some cars. They had to change the formula and started using Nitrogen enriched fuels, at least here in Canada they do.
This past summer my wife and I pulled into a Shell somewhere in Oregon and the attendant told me to use the pump out back, said it had 0 ethanol and that it was a 93 octane. We did and our Harleys ran better than ever.

Fortunately, there's a Shell less than one mile from my house and it's relatively easy in, easy out.

Running the 93 Octane and it still sounds like a sewing machine. But it's not pinging!

havent tried shell yet but I think HD endorses it. I use BP or Mobil because of easy in and easy out.

Only two gas stations in my little town. A newly refurbished easy in and out Exxon and an older BP where you have to go inside to pay. The next town down the road only has a BP but at least it's pay at the pump. Exxon gets 99% of my local business but I've used BP in both the bike and the Jeep and haven't noticed a bit of difference.

When traveling I'm not fussy. If the station looks clean and I need gas, that's where I'll stop. I don't worry about how many hoses the pumps have, although I've found that the 3 hose pumps usually have nozzles that are easier to use.

Speaking of which, those of you in California really have some screwed up pump nozzles.
