I'm getting hit the worst.

Manitoba Public Insurance. A government insurance monopoly.

I'm 42 yo, perfect driving record - no claims ever, decent coverage with $200 deductible, $5 million 3rd party liability.

With my 25% good driving discount applied I pay $1,850 per year. Premiums are applied to March to October season, meaning I don't get any rebate if I wanted to remove insurance during the non-riding season. Manitoba is no-fault meaning I have rehabilitation and missed work expenses covered by MPI but I can't sue in the event I'm injured by another Manitoba resident.

And my premiums aren't near as bad as a kid with a bad record and a sport bike.

The theory behind the insurance rate for motorcycles here is that the motorcycle group of insured need to fund their own insurance claims experience. Therefore any claim involving a motorcycle is assigned to the motorcycle group regardless of who is at fault for the claim. If a car runs a red light and plows into a motorcycle, the motorcyclists will collectively bear the cost of the claim during the next insurance year. This goes over well with the 99% of the rate payers who are not riders - their premiums would only go up in the real world of insurance claims experience where, as it should be, the at-fault group shares the expenses of that group.

Politically, there is no motivation for the government of the day to consider allowing private insurance to compete in this market. Until there is, I will continue to subsidize the non-motorcycle group of vehicles when they put one of us in the hospital.

Both bikes are about $1100/yr.

Close to $900.00 a year through Jevco (I think they are the only game in town, unless you're in a Gov't. insured province).

54 years old, no accidents in the last 25 years, only a couple of photo radar tickets in the past 5 years. As soon as they hear Harley-Davidson, you can see the dollar signs in their eyes.

Ride safe everyone.

Lived in CT, insurance with Geico at about $800/yr. Move to SC, it jumps to $1295. Meanwhile, my auto policy premiums (both with Geico) dropped by about 45%.

Just for haha's I today did an apples-to-apples quote, Geico versus Progressive. Geico @ $910, Progressive @ $514. I called Geico and explained, and they told me there is nothing they can do.

I've been with Geico for years; I have two auto policies, one motorcycle policy, a renter's policy, and an umbrella policy all with or via Geico. But, I can't ignore $400 on the bike. I've got some math coming up this week on the rest of the policies, to see where I'll be going.

So those numbers answer your question, to the point...

Edit: No claims, no tickets, no nothing.

Foremost, $203/year. 2008 ElectraGlide Classic. I do get the AARP discount along with no claims and a good credit rating.

You riders in Canada are getting hosed!

It probably has something to do with the fact that you have goverrment provided health care. You can only get minimal medical coverage here in the states so you realy have no medical coverage for an accident unless you have a good health insurance policy which is realy expensive down here.

I've had Geico for both my cars for a few years and just called them the other day for my new bike and they told me "OH Good your in luck you get a nice discount" then told me the price was gonna be $1007 a year asked for a quote at the dealer and for the same coverage I was given $827. The only accident I ever had in my life I was 18 y/o now I'm 39 with a perfect record. I think I may also check pregressive now to to see were they fall.
