Default Packing "HEAT" while traveling the country.

I would like to bring my Colt 1911 .45 with me while traveling from state to state. Do I need to look up the laws for each state or is there a broad rule for carrying a firearm accross state lines?

It varies state to state. If you PM me the states youre going to, I can give you the laws applicable.

The only overriding federal regulation allows you to transport weapons, but, that wouldn't be "packing heat".

I recently moved my cache from CT to SC and did a **** ton of research, and in the end, I picked up a book that answered all my questions simply.

Also, what state are you in, and how are you certified there? Do you have a Utah CWP?

That does depend. If you have a CCW license, look at the states that recognize your state. If you don't have a CCW license, better do some research about packing on the bike. That can be a dicey game, and you don't wanna lose.

best look it up. LEOs are allowed to carry in every state because of a law HR218 GW signed in. Feds can carry every where too, even when flying. if you are just CCW in a state, better check. some states dont honor others, some do. i just carry and hope i dont get caught. but the old saying, "rather have it and not need it and need it and not have it..." thats how i roll! lol

Even with a CCW can still be a can of worms travelling ... I like to stick to the south .. I can go from FL to AZ through the Southern Route and all those States recognize FL CCW ... To hell with CA Just Ride to AZ and head back home ..

Is the 1911 full size? If so that might be a little difficult to conceal all the time. I'm fortunate to be an LEO and don't have to worry about individual states laws but you will. Be very familiar with each states rules.

Jaystronghawk....you are missing out on some of the most beautiful scenary in the country by skipping California. Pack the gun away and ride.

If you have a CCW permit in your state, this site will show you the other states that recognize your permit:

I have Utah and Florida non-resident CCWs, and I'm covered in roughly 30 states. Most of the Southern states recognize one of these.

For anyone traveling to Vegas, watch out. They recently changed which states that they recognize (they don't recognize a Utah CCW anymore).

If you get caught carrying in California without a CCW, you're going to jail.
