Last friday a HD rider was killed traveling on I 80 going into Reno for Street Vibrations.
A section of highway was being repaved right before Boomtown(near Reno). He was riding an Ultra I believe. The left lane was as all ground up waiting for a layer of new asphalt. The right lane was paved already and was about 2-3 inches higher. The rider lost control while in the fast (rough)lane. He hit a vehicle and went down then a truck ran him over. The traffic was heavy.
On my way to Reno ,I got caught in that same lane,it was like riding on marbels until I was able to move over.
That's a shame. Prayers for the family. Construction is a hard thing to ride in. Rider was probably too scared to make the jump up to the smooth pavement, but should have tried. The gnawed ground is a bad thing to keep riding on.
that is sad. David Hough in his writings (profecient motor cycling) talks about it all the time. but if it can happen it will happen. It could be any of us.....
Prayers for the family. This morning at 0500 on the way into Seattle, a stretch of the HOV was all ground up for repaving. Wasn't like that yesterday, no warning signs, and a 2" hump to thew next lane in heavy traffic. I had to ride it out at 65. [sm=rolleyes.gif]

I hit some of that in the dark while heading south last weekend. Waited for enough room and angled over the rise to get to the new pavement. A little wobble but far safer to do that than to stay in that messed up crap.
Up in my area, they are doing road work on every highway in and out of town. I have never seen so much road work going on at one time. I rode over to the coast and really had to watch what I was doing and slow down due to uneven patches, left over asphalt, etc..... My prayers to the fallen rider.
Very sad. I'm a big truck driver out of Reno, and was leavin town at 1815 heading for the bay, saw him laying there. his body was half covered up with a body bag, his packed clothes were laying all over the road. I had lots of tears in my eyes. 10 more miles and he would have been in Reno. Thought about him all night. On my return to Reno saw that the left lane was ground off, and the right lane was new pavement making for uneven. Lots of warning signs before hand. God bless him.
That is sad. Two weekends ago wife and I were coming back from Cape Cod, MA on I93 north out of Boston and just prior to the NH border there were no warning signs but the fresh pavement ended on a bridge overpass and then started up again with a huge bump to get back onto the pavement. I hit that at 85mph and I flew up in the air off my seat about a foot. The wife went so high she had to grab my backrest and pull herself back down. She landed half on the seat and half off. This was on a 4 lane traffic packed highway. She ended up with a huge bruise below her stomach from it. Had she not pulled herself down I would have lost her and she would have been run over. I talked to a friend that went down to the Cape with us, but in a cage and he said he also hit that and almost ripped the front end out of his cage.

I hit a strech of that last year at street vibrations going out to the Mustang Ranch for dinner. Had to hang on for dear life with the wife on board. Yelled bump to her but she didn't react fast enough and she ended up with a sore back and rump for the rest of the trip to the ranch and back to the Boomtown Hotel. It wasn't fun! I had let off on the gas when we started into the rough surface and was down to 50 mph when we hit the bump but it was enough to cause problems. Worst part was it was the first time riding 2 up in about 25 years, so yea I was sweating it. My prayers are with his family and friends.
I rode right through that mess - that road was unsafe for motorcycles plain and simple. The groove between the good pavement and ground up stuff was huge and deep - very easy to loose control on that...
Even with warnings you expect the road to be safer than that.
