yes, I've had a knee replaced (need another now, the first was 22 years ago), and I personally can't handle the weight of heavy bikes anymore. Results may vary I spose

One of my riding buddies is 76 years old and has had a full knee replacement on one leg...still rides his Ultra regularly with a passenger. He will be getting the other knee done soon.

It can be done!

Do leg exercises before you have surgery. You gotta build up your muscle because when your sittin' there after surgery all stoned on pain tabs, you will lose 3% muscle per day.
Go to physio & do what they say. You should be better than you are right now once your healed!
Hatch.

Not speaking from experience here but I have a good friend that had his left knee replaced and with the PT he said he can do most anything he wants. He rides an Ultra.

I believe it all depends on how much effort is put into recovery and strength training type exercise, before and after.

Since were all old farts, we put our bodies in the shop during the winter to get new parts, instead of our bikes.
So, along those lines, one of our club officers that I ride with on a regular basis just had one of his knee's replaced about 5 weeks ago. He has already been on his bike, but has not tried riding any distance YET, but he is being coached by another member that has had BOTH knees replaced, and is still able to ride.

Bottom line is every person is different. It depends on how YOU and your body react to the surgery AND how badly you want to ride.

My wife has had a major stroke that left the entire right leg and hand useless. So, I am in the process of trying to get a bike set up for her that has brake AND shift controls on the left side, plus training wheels that come down automatically whenever she stops.
