So looking around at parts today being that it is winter and next winter I would like to start adding to my bike I came across the K&N aircharger. Looking at it for price and what it would do for the engine I came across a page saying it was illegal to have on a bike in NJ. I would assume that this is because of EPA emission standards but could be wrong.
When I took my MSF course they mentioned how much politics comes into riding sometimes but this is just insane!! Are they really that worried about what can go onto a bike when you can buy a stock truck that gets 16 mpg and puts out infinitely more emissions? Just knew to riding and was a little surprised.
Trailer hitch??? Okay!!!! You wouldn't believe how many engine performance items are classified as "illegal for use in Caliphornia". I'm sure it's all about emissions BS. Watch out Amercia, many more states are soon to follow!!!
Well I guess I will just have to take my chances. There is no state inspection for bikes in Jersey so I will throw it on there and if I am unfortunate enough to get pulled over by a cop who knows its illegal or just throws a hissy fit because I ride a bike oh well thats what I get.
I grew up in New Jersey and have no doubt they could be trying to "say" what you can and can't do. I agree with previous posts saying that local cops won't know what the state regs are and probably won't be interested. Good luck. Makes me love Arizona even more--the Wild Wild West.
