I had a friend who was a very experienced rider get killed on my old bike when I let him take it for a ride. Now nobody rides mine. You did the right thing.

Same here. The only person allowed to ride my bike is my uncle, he's been riding since he was 12 and infected me with the riding/HD bug. I normally give people a chance at trying everything (snowmobiles, cars, etc), but I put my foot down with the bike.

You were in the right to say no....

My wife and I will only let a very select few ride any of our bikes (hers or mine) and those that do know that they will be paying for anything that happens to them.(besides being knowledgeable riders to begin with!) (just like when taken in for service..the dealership will be taking financial responsibility for any damage done)

+1.

I have some friends that i ride with very often and i know their skill level. i feel honored if someone thinks highly enough of my bike that they would like to give it a spin. But i would not let someone with no experience take her for a ride.

To this day my mom gives me a hard time saying that she didnt raise me to be like that, so am I like that or was I right to say NO?
Tell your mom that you might of saved his life by saying no.

You weren't selfish, you were right!
If he wants to ride he can buy his own.
i would never even ask that question.
