Ok guys im looking to trade my Night train in for a more stable bike thats a little easier on my back and because i dont like the way the 21inch wheel on the train tracks all over the crappy roads where i live!! Looking at bikes with floorboards , fater front tire and medium ape hangers. Was set on the Crossbones until i seen a pic of a Fatboy lo with black 16 inch apes it looked sweet! So i know in the end its up to me and i defenetly will take them for a ride before i choose. But since its winter time i figured id ask to see if anyone was in the same spot and took both for a test ride and what one they liked better? The dealer wants 16,299 for the Fatboy and 16,999 for the Bones! But i figure if i go with the Fatboy throw on the Black 16inch apes they will be about the same price in the end!
Hi Zakk13,
My first Harley was also a NT but i have sell it 4 years ago.
I love the Fatboy lo in denim black and the Cross Bones in denim black.
I have make my choice last july 2010 (Cross Bones) but when i decided to buy it, it was sold out in a short time.
In october 2010 i have order the new 2011 Cross Bones in denim black.
It is the last year that you can buy a Cross Bones so go for it if you love it!
I get my Cross Bones in april 2011 .... i can't wait to get him!
I'am a happy man!
Regards,
From the netherlands

I already did. Not on a single list, at least on page 1 of the google search
Now I DO think that the stock Xbones was DESIGNED to modify. I blacked mine out completely, except for the Rinehart exhaust and it is Beautiful...if you like Black !
Search here on the forum for "Least popular HD?" the thread is quite long and lists the Xbones as #2 after the Rocker and then the V-Rod.
It really all depends on what you like and if the newer model bikes offer you something you really want over your night train.
It goes without saying that $1-5k in mods is hell of a lot cheaper than buying an entirely new bike.
If you really want a new machine though, test Ride both bikes before pulling the trigger.
A lot of people say that the reach and seat height of a cross bones can make shorter riders under 6' feel "stretched out." The springer front end, fat tires, seat, etc is stylin' but I personally don't care for the dove tail fender. You might also find a great deal on one as HD tries to move them.
I ride the Lo, and the handling is terrific and it is an over all comfortable ride. A taller rider, over 6'2" could feel scrunched up on it though. I am 5'11" and it fits great, but even I think I could use a adjustment to the shocks to raise it another inch. But that lower center of gravity is why it handles so nice.
To each their own, ultimately it is you and your lender's call.
My wife's Fat Boy is a LOT more comfortable than my NT ever was. (seat and handlebar positioning, not really the front wheel...my advice would be to just get new comfy seat and different bars)
Not familiar with feel of Xbones, especially for longer rides.
But my best advice for comfort: Touring bike.
I still miss my NT, but not as much as I love my Street Glide.
Do what you want, buy what you like...and I do have an opinion..of course..
IMHO...Dont modify the Night Train...move on!! Buy a new bike....when in doubt, buy a new one. Of course, when/if you can. Support the economy...HA HA..
No to the Bones.....yes to a Fat Boy- go with a regular Fat Boy..
Their are 4 or 5 Harley models that are never going away...will never look dated....Fat Boy is one of them....
The dealer wants 16,299 for the Fatboy and 16,999 for the Bones! But i figure if i go with the Fatboy throw on the Black 16inch apes they will be about the same price in the end!
Well, the Fatboy Lo may be a great riding bike, but I consider it one of the ugliest Harleys made, while the Crossbones is one of the better looking ones. The Fatboy Lo pipes would embarass a soup-can manufacturer. If you decide on that one, save some money for some less ugly pipes. For me, the choice would be the Crossbones, in half a second.
On the other hand, I consider one of the uglier features of both to be that little stubby front tire.
