They are about the cheapest things you can get. I change them once a year in the Spring. I use genuine HD, they are designed for the engine and priced right.

+1. anti seize is your friend. and you don't have to be the 800 lb gorilla when you are tightening them down. torque value is only 12-18 ft/lb.

I never change mine. Put new ones in 'em when I buy the bike (unless new) and forget 'em until the bike doesn't run right. But it's never happened yet; I usually get a new bike before that.

Reason? Changing the plugs too often can put needless wear & tear on those delicate threads.

Many opinions to choose from...I put Screaming eagle triple platinum at 10000 miles and ran them until this year at about 50000 miles, checked them pretty regularly and always lookes good. swapped them out just for maintenances sake...Bike ran exactly the same for me...I say if you are not sure just change them. Not that costly if you use regular plugs...Cheap peace of mind.

Just a question? I don't want to come off as a S.A., But insurance from what? I've Been driving for 50+ years and except for single cylinder two cycle engines, I've never had an engine quit or sustained damage from a plug going bad. I one time had a plug come out and put a big dent on the hood of my 51 ford. but when a plug starts going bad you get a lot of warning. Hell carry an extra set and a plug wrench on your bike if you're worried. I figure 50,000 is not excessive milage on plugs in a good running engine. I think changing out perfectly good plugs only waste time, money, and puts unessary wear on the threads in your heads. Just my .02

On everything except my trucks and cars I clean and gap them every oil change. Change them when I see noticeable damage or wear (not very often).

Speaking about gap. My manual says between .035-.040 gap. What would be best. The HD plugs are re-set for about in the middle of that. Any thoughts?

I'm guessing .0375 would be about ideal, kind like HD sets them.
