Default Possible Scam on craigslist

So there is this nice softtail for sale in Modesto CA craiglist. $2750. Bike looked perfect so I emailed the lady who had provided a gmail address. She get back to me and says it is US 2750.00. First clue, no one says US before the list price. Then she tells me the bike is in Florida. If you have a bike like this it will sell in a day and no need to send it 3000 miles. So heads up. Just throwing it out there.
http://modesto.craigslist.org/fud/2329244455.html

This is her reply.
"Hello,

My bike is in great shape,no engine problems, clear title, damages or
hidden defects. It was always garaged and the price is US $2,750.
I`m a single mother with 2 children because i divorced with my husband and after the divorce i own this bike, i don`t need it and that`s why i`m selling it so cheap.
The bike is located in Inverness,FL (I just moved here with my new job),VIN:1HD1BW5107Y093342.
I will use eBay`s protection program for our safety because I am affiliated there with a
protection account of $50000.I will send you the bike and you have 5 days inspection
period, before you decide to buy it.If for any reason you reject the bike I will pay the
shipping back to my location.
Here is how it will work:
1. First of all I will need the following details from you:
- Full Name
- Full Shipping Address
- Phone number

P.S. Please don`t forget to send me your info!
Best Regards !

Too bad. Looked like a nice bike.

I like responding to those adds with I have cash and would like to see the item. I get a kick out of their responses and then they pull the add.

They run that scam on every major CL market.

Signs it's a scam:

-Price to good to be true

-No contact phone number

-Too much info in description

-Often pictures that don't match the description

Flag it and move on

Yep, there is also an *** CLOWN scamming CL with a stolen photo of an 03 Anniversary Road King for $2800. I must wonder if it is maybe the same guy different listing. Just do a search on CL for 2003 Road King and you will more than likely see him.

Same scam, pay him, he says he is a soldier that's leaving for Afghanistan or Libya or Iraq and he will ship it to you. SCAM! I always flag him for removal but he has literally posted on 99% of Craigs lists cities in the US.

He is probably running the scam from Europe or the mid east. We should hunt those bastards down and chop off their dangly parts and shove them down their throats!

As the old adage goes, if an internet ad looks too good to be true, IT’S ALWAYS A SCAM! Bob

My best friend fell for this same scam last December . Different bike model but same scam. He was going to send the $500.00 for deposit and they were going to ship the bike to a dealer that he chose near his home to have it checked out.

If he was not satisfied they would pay for the shipping back to Florida and refund his money.

When he told me he was looking for a used bike on Craig's List I told him to be careful of scams. But he was taken by this add. It was just luck I called him to see if he found a bike yet, the very day he was going to send this A-Hole the $500.00. I told Him "DON'T SEND THEM ANY MONEY! IT'S A SCAM".

He said the women was very nice and she just got back from Iraq and needed the money for her kids. She even agreed to take less for the bike.
I told him to ask her who she was using to ship the bike to him here in IL. She couldn't give him an answer. He decided to forget about this bike.

My friend is no dummy but sometimes I wonder. He is always looking for that perfect deal without checking it out first.

If it's too good to be true it probably isn't.

A few years back I posted an item I was trying to sell on CL. I got over ten inquiries that were obvious scams. They usually offered more than the asking price, but then asked I pay a commission to an intermediary from the excess funds. I knew it was a scam when they asked me to package it up and send it Fed-Ex to Nigeria (it was a 4500lb sailboat)

Why would anyone send money to someone who posted on CL? It's meant to be a local market selling tool...stupid is as stupid does...

It's simple... You have to be completely retarded moron to sell that bike for that price. Usually, people will ask more, not less then the list price. Especially if they need money.
It takes 2 people for a scam: one scamer, and one greedy SOB.
