Default Riding At Night

1. I'm a brand new rider with less than 100 miles on my bike. I just *love* the bike, and I grin through each ride. I've kept it to the neighborhood and cruise around familiar backstreets for about 30 minutes at a time. First trip to the gas station was pretty hilarious as I could only get a gallon in there.

What's the trick? :-)

2. I did the usual ride after sundown and was *much less* confident! Feeling like I should chill on the night riding 'til I have more miles under my belt.

Your experiences shared would be greatly appreciated!

Personally I hate riding at night. I prefer being able to see more. On the other hand my son enjoys night riding, his night vision is better than mine or he's still too deep into his youthful arrogance. Haven't figured that one out yet.

Riding at night is deffinately more dangerous. I remeber it was kinda weird only seeing lights in the rear views and not actual cars. It does take some getting used to. your better off racking up some more day miles before you start riding at night. then keep it short and maybe grab a bud. always safer in a group.

Don't rush yourself. Plenty of time left for you to get the night riding thing down.

As for getting more than one gallon of gas in the tank, you cannot jam the pump into the tank like a car. You need to hold it just into the tank and pump slowwwww or you just end up with a mess. Night riding was definately disconcerting at first it just takes time to get used to, rack up the daylight miles and the night time will come.

Night riding is really enjoyable when you get a few under your belt.

back in 77' when I got my first bike I was in the Corps and at school in Pensacola. The day I got the bike plated I was on the evening shift so I didn't get to ride til after midnight. Took it out on a 100 mile ride, by the end of the ride I didn't know what anything on the bike looked like but i knew every sound and every vibration. At night you get a FEEL for it. Take your time, but don't give up night rides they are the best. BTW usually less traffic on the big roads at night.

I like riding the back roads at night. Highway speeds at night makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck!
