Since you have money to blow, buy a clean bike in that model/year if thats what you like. A junker that was fixed up is almost never as nice or as clean as an original that was taken care of over the years. Unless you spend WAY too much money, quite likely more than your willing to spend. Doesn't seem like it would be tooo hard to find a nicer bike like that one if you look around a lil.

It's an FXR. Tranny problem is not a big deal. you can get used trannies pretty cheap. There's a place online that specializes in FXR parts. these bikes seem to be goin up in value. Have seen 2 go for over 8K recently. BTW if you buy it and want to replace the tranny, pull the guts cause on an FXR the swingarm runs thru the tranny case. The guts slide out like a drawer.

It's almost May - buy one you'll actually be able to ride this year.

It's a Harley - replacing parts can be very expensive. If you blow most of your money on a project bike, and you are new to working on them, it could be a year or more before you are riding.

With an old bike that isn't even rideable, you will have as much invested as if you had bought a running bike by the time it's fixed, even if you find some cheap used parts.

If you are like me it's not about the money, it's about the bike. If this bike catches your eye and you want to work on a builder and make it your own... DO IT! It shouldn't take more than a couple of days to rebuild the tranny if the parts are readily available... it certainly won't take an entire summer.

Replacing the cylinders, pistons, valves AND reworking the entire transmission at only 60000 miles? This bike was ridden hard hard and put away wet with little care in between.

Who did the prior work to the engine? Can you talk to them?

I dunno man, sounds like a bike I might stay away from...but then I'm old.

Did you say you're buying a new one, and thinking of buying a used one to go along with it?
