HD screwed up. This install was too easy. It took 30 minutes mostly to remove the seat with a Phillips, the dash with a half inch and a Allen wrench. WHY DO THEY HAVE TO USE EVERY TYPE FASTENER KNOWN TO MAN? Getting the speedometer synched was super easy as in you hook up the provided cable and it does the rest. Finally something from HD that is user friendly. 70900070 on '12 FLHR
Where is the mileage info stored? It can't be in the speedo, because if swap this one in (I know, it's the wrong size and for the wrong bike) the numbers can't go back to zero.

I am looking into getting one of these new speedos for the my Night Train. The dealer said that they take the miles off your current speedo when you order it and the factory inputs that number into the new unit before they send it to the dealer. That way when it arrives it already has the correct miles.
I bought it off the shelf and took it home and synched it up. The mileage must be on the ECM or it pulls it from the old unit since they are both connected during the synch process. Dealer must have talking about a different model
I am still amazed that Harley Davidson doesn't include a tachometer on all of their motorcycles. My Lowrider had one. My Tbird has one....my daughters Honda Civic has one. WTF?
I know, right? A definite WTF.
What I really don't get is how this '96 Dyna can have both tank-mounted speedo and tach, but not the Softails?? Can someone tell me why?
