Im new to the cruiser/touring riding and just bought my first Harley this spring (99 Road King Classic). I am looking for some gear without going the obvious route of going to the Harley dealer and dressing up like Im some sort of sponsored rider. Id like to find some good quality stuff (chaps, jacket, gloves, maybe boots) that Id be actually paying for a quality product and not just for a name or a logo. Does anyone have some suggestions for products theyve tried that have held up to some of your torture tests? Ive recently moved over from the sportbike scene and was a big fan of the Italian Alpinestars brand, but just like Harley branded stuff, I was paying a lot more for a name.
Fox Creek is good but sizing is difficult to nail down...for me anyway. HD FXRG is the best you can buy IMO. Ebay has some great deals if you're patient.

Thanks in advance.
If you already have Alpinestars, why not wear it?
Otherwise, I like Schott jackets and whatever chaps are cheap - probable used ones.

I ended up selling my A* gear when I traded in my sportbike. The armor and speed hump really wasn't too comfortable for the new riding position. I also sold my full leather suit since that didn't seem to fit well on the touring bike.
I still have my Shoei full face helmet that I've been wearing because of the cold, but will probably find something a little more open in the future.
I'll check the Fox Creek stuff and the Jafrum website and see what's around there too.
For the chaps, is there really a good or bad when it comes to which brand or quality or do they all just do the same thing and provide leather on your legs?
