Vin number question

Looking at the different HD Vin number decoders you can find on the internet, the 10th digit/letter is supposed to indicate the model year. Mine has a "W" but all the different sites I've looked at where they list the letters and corresponding years all skip the "W". Mine a '98 so it should have an "X". What's with the "W"?

As far as I know these are the only letters not used for model years 81-2000 ( when they went back to numbers in 2001) B=81, skip I,O,Q,U ( to avoid mis-reads )..... Y=2000. W is correct for a 98.
