Incredible Gift
Lone Star Rally was an experience for many reasons. This one brought me to tears. I have a son in the military – he left for Iraq 2 weeks ago. I had gotten a horn cover for my bike that is a silhouette of a soldier. He has a picture of him on it and I was standing behind him that is in his wallet. On the back, I wrote, “You will always be riding with me”.
My plan was to find someone who could write on there “Freedom isn’t free”. When he returns I am going to put it on his bike.
This weekend I ran across a gentleman who was doing pin stripping. I told him what I wanted and shared why. He said sure, no problem. He shared with me that he has a son in Afghanistan.
On Sunday, I brought my bike down. His wife was there, the three of us talked about our sons for a few minutes, and I left.
When I arrived back, he had his tent closed. My bike was out front – with my horn cover on. I noticed what I thought was an envelope slide in my seat. When I walked up to my bike I saw it was a note. “This one’s on me. Bring him home safe. Thanks, Magic”. I immediately had tears streaming down my face and do now as I am typing.
What an incredible gift he gave.

I had just finished with my tears when a couple that we were riding with came up. The tears started all over again as I showed them the note. He is a Vietnam vet. He gave me a huge bear hug and his wife was crying right with me.
They are the ones that took the pictures. I was trying to compose myself again...

When I saw it I had to get it and the idea immediatly came to my mind of what I wanted to do. My son knows about the horn cover being on my bike - naturally. He does not know about what I did this weekend to it, or that I plan on putting it on his bike when he returns.

I got home late tonite and still went back out to the garage and stood there looking at it...
