I guess it's hard to build an arched ramp out of wood.

But hey, props to the guy for going to the garage and trying to solve his problem on his own. None of us know that it WON'T work, and if it does, he gets to experience the joy of hauling a quarter ton of lumber around on his vacation! :-)

I made a ramp pretty much the same except I used a double ramp for the bike and two single ramps for my feet made out of 2x8's. I used jack stands for support. It works fine! If your ramp is 8' long and your pickup isn't to high you should clear the tail gate. If in doubt, find a slope in the road or drive way to lower the angle so you don't high center.

Thanks for all the pros and cons.I'm not hauling the ramp with me,it stays here for when I get home.I planed on reinforcing the tail gate cables also.
I'll shop around for a place that could help me unload it.
Thanks again.

are you just screwing those foot boards onto those 2 other boards that go across the bottom of your planks? If so , they may pull out if you actually start to lose it on one side or the other and put all the wieght you can hold up onto it. I would bolt them onto those boards or ace those things and get another plank or 2 like the center one.

I'd just take the bike and the truck to a local HD dealer - they'll help you load/unload.

Those boards with the anti slip strips are two 2x8x10 long joined together the outer ones are 1x6s for my feet not yet secured.I do have a slope in my yard that would work well.
Thanks for your input.

I wish you the best of luck with your new venture and hope you enjoy the ride. But I agree with the pessimist's, IMO you are stepping over a dollar to save a dime.
