The Garmin GPS is a great unit but the price Harley and Garmin want for the Motor Cycle one is crazy . The question here is has anyone try and mount and use one from there car . I have one in my car that uses the suction mount to the windshield was thinking about making some form of bracket that uses the factory piece that holds the Garmin in place and charges it and come up with some form of plate to mount it too . Anyone all ready done this ???
Do a search and you will find many options for mounting a car garmin on bike. I have used a Garmin Nuvi, mounted to bars or suction cupon gas tank, for years without any problems.
I use my car Garmin on my bike. Go to Ram mounts website, they make a nice mount for the Garmin that won't come loose if you hit a bump. Only thing is, you have to be careful not to get the car unit wet.
Do a search for RAM mounts. You'll never run out of ways to mount your GPS on your bike.
I use a handheld GPSr (Garmin Colorado) that I keep in my pocket. Personally, a turn by turn GPS tends to mess with my sense of direction, and I'm more comfortable using the GPS as a reference.
bought a refurbed Street pilot 2720 on Ebay for $110.00. It's built to take rain, vibration and it works with gloves. Simple to use and reliable. It is kind of bulky, but Ram makes a cradle for it and it mounts on my bike no problem at all.
I didn't like the handlebar mounts available (bulky & expensive) and I wanted something less obtrusive, so I mounted a small adapter plate to my inner fairing that allows me to slide my Garmin Nuvi on & off. It's out of the way, protected by the fairing, and only cost a couple of bucks. I installed a hardwire kit to power the GPS & the wire stays hidden in one of the dash storage pouches behind the windscreen. Even when it's plugged in you can barely see the wire.

The handlebar mounts that come with most RAM systems are what I call bicycle mounts. They're a zinc-coated u-bolt with locking nuts and a 1" ball B mount. If you want something a little classier, and already have the rest of the RAM mounting system, get a Kuryakyn P-clamp and then get this: http://www.gpscity.com/ram-mount-fem...am-b-337u.html
I have the RAM mount and it works great. When I'm not using it all that shows is the little U mount ball linked in JonW's post. I have one holder specific for my TomTom and just purchased an iPhone adapter too so now I have two GPS options just in case the wife heads out with the TomTom.
